I tried to be all of that, but it didn't work out for me. Did travel reviews, restaurant reviews, local event reviews and info because some guru said to do it... and all it got me was the search engines and SEO tools seeing my site as more of a travel site and ranking me against tripadvisor and yelp. Took me almost a year to get my site to show as a real estate site again and the first step was removing the non-real estate stuff. I only know this because I'm a techie and was monitoring that stuff with aHrefs.com.
Now I focus solely on the real estate market and (most importantly) my transactions & listings. It's done wonders for my traffic. No one cared what Huggins Homes thought about a local pizza shop or that it had a soda fountain that used a mix that had natural sugar instead of corn syrup (first in the city that I was aware of). The blog even out lasted the restaurant. I had less than a handfull of views in probably 2 years. Now I often get my site on the first page of Google for address searches and often out rank most, if not all, of the medium to small brokerages and some of the national chains and portals.
I almost resurrected the restaurant review last year, when I got invited to try a local restaurant that was looking for catering business. It actually became a favorite of my family and we went there twice a week (or more). By the time I got around to writing the blog though, the food quality started going down hill and I stopped going there. Can't recommend a place I don't frequent, so I nixed the blog idea.
I do see agents out here who have youtube channels filled with restaurant reviews and such and have a good amount of followers from that. Don't know them though, so I can't ask and see if that converts to business. I know many sales people, in all types of sales, that do things with no return because some guru said to... so I can't use the "well they're still doing it, so it must work" logic.
With that said, I do perform regular audits of my content and if it's not performing, it goes away.
