Wow.  I don't know how to answer actually since I can't recall this situation occurring.  Not sure I want to think about it further.   On a side note:  it's good to "see" you  - is this an end to your AR hiatus?  I hope so.

Kudos to the parents for stepping up but, they should have taught him/her to sneeze into the crook of his arm from a very early age!

If the washcloth they handed me was anti-bacterial infused, I would have thanked them, said, GOD BLESS YOU to the little one and proceeded to wipe off my face.

I am a bit of a germophobe so, it would be a challenge to keep a smile on my face immediately after that incident, Paul!!

And, WELCOME BACK! We've missed you!

Grrrrr...

One time an office client took her 8 year old child into our office bathroom who proceeded to throw up all over everything...the toilet, the floor and the wall.

The mother comes out and instructs my receptionist/secretary to go clean it up.  My receptionist was a peach and cleaned it all up.

I heard the story when I came back. If I had been there, I would have handed the mother the cleaning stuff so she could clean it.

In your situation, I would go put my face under the faucet, and scrub hard...

Eve

I have no hesitation in telling a child or an adult to cover that up!  Then I would plop an Airborne into my water glass in a very dramatic way! But seriously, I would correct that behavior and let the offender know that sneezing or coughing on me is not going to work.

Since it was a kid, I would make sure that he knew I was displeased. Hey, where are your manners! Cover your mouth dude!

Then I would look for part 2 & shift toward the parents. It's not right especially if the kid didn't say excuse me.

After the fact in this situation could turn ugly. Whats done is done unless you care to lovingly point out what to do next time thus educating the child. This reminds me of a candid camera classic episode where they tactfully showed a little boy at a urinal and a man comes in using the next urinal and the kid per plan squirts a water gun on the guys shoes implying the kid urinated on his shoe. There were different reactions. 1. ignore 2. Hey! 3. One guy started laughing 4. Change urinals. What would you do?

I would address the child with and "excuse me, did you forget to cover your nose/mouth when you sneezed?  Can you go get a kleenex for me so I can wipe off my face and then grab one for yourself, so you can blow your nose."  Parents should have picked up on this and intervened, but since they didn't, all bets are off and address the child directly.  How you deliver the comments will determine if the parents get their panties in a bunch.  Never had it happen to me, but there is always a first!
