It seems the California legislature has an overwhelming need to govern.  Too bad they don't always comprehend the ability to govern themselves.

Just recently, I had a client who was awarded possession of property by the judge on July 1st. On the 2nd the tenant went to the courthouse and appealed for $70 - since they had just caught up on rent prior to the court date & July rent grace period was still in place (monthly rent=$3K+). Long-story short, this new rule change caught both myself and the owner off guard. We ended up having to get an emergency hearing at the circuit court to resolve. Kinda crazy that a tenant can appeal, technically not pay any further rent & stay in owner's property for very little money paid to courthouse. 

I know that ND did enact several new laws in the last month Jeff Pearl . Most noticeable here is ND struck down the last "blue law" in the nation. Now retailers can be open on Sunday mornings.... very sad for families that want to worship together..

not sure of that answer, but I expect MA has more than its fair share of rental laws.... that's why I only rent to family members!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know... I don't pay attention. But I wouldn't be surprised.

Our state legislature only meets every 2 years, so we don't experience that yearly change.

Not every July, but we had some passed in December that went into effect recently.

Sad when governments enact laws that only hurt the landlords.  We're the ones with OUR money invested.  Why do we get penalized because someone refuses to pay their rent? 

Seems January & July are our months for new laws and revisions here in NC too, Jeff.

I generally have a heads up on new real estate laws since I am part of the group from our state that heads down to the capital to lobby for these laws.

Some in July, some in January, I always find the list of both real estate rules and regs and laws in general to know what has passed and been signed.

I just attended the Aug 2019 Oregon Real Estate Agency meeting in Hood River. The first item on the agenda was going over the recently approved legislation affecting Oregon real estate . 

I agree with Barbara Todaro on this one. We do have our fair share of rental laws in MA

The amatuers, I mean legislators, seem to want to earn their keep. Sometimes I wish they would think before they vote!

1st Q here in Cali, if they're in July too, they're doing a bad job of notifying us.

Our laws ususally go into effect on Jan 1. Don't think that need anymore eviction laws do we?

I think the number is well more than several here in California every year, covering a wide range of issues!

Pretty consistent on Eviction law that favors the tenant but for only so long

I don't do property management, but we had a few changes on our contracts eff. 7/1.

Interesting information. 

In Florida it is much easier to evict tenants.

Our onerous real estate related laws are more likely to be about rent control.

California does have new laws that we do need to and most surely should keep current with.
