Yep, ghosting local numbers is nothing new.  Also, I've received spam calls from people saying they have the information I requested... which I didn't.

Have had this for a long time. I was reading yesterday where 'YOU' are going to be calling yourself next as the spoofing technology picks up more momentum. I hope they make this stuff illegal. They say 30% of your calls are now spam.

Yep, I've gotten those calls. When I tell them I didn't call them, they actually try to argue and say my number showed up on the screen. BS, is doesn't show  up on my dialed calls.

Yes, it happens on a daily basis. I know many people who just do not answer their phones because of it. They assume that if it is legit, the person will leave a voice or text message.

Yes I have had that happen and I have had "people" call me too. I have not had this happen for a few years now.

An entity spoofed your number to have a local number to increase the likelihood of someone answering their call.

Wanda, spoofing has been around for quite a few years. I remember seeing spoof cards in the local 7-11. You buy it, assign a phone number to it and call people. The assigned number shows up and the person answering is none the wiser. One caller called my office assistant using her cell phone number. Oops. Picked the wrong number. Happens here locally everyday.

Yes, the butt-wipes program a local number into the phone so caller ID shows a number that is NOT the number they are calling from.  So annoying.

It's called spoofing and has been around for some time here. The scammers "spoof" your number so it appears on their called ID and people think you called them.

The calls I get all have the same area code and first three digits as my cell but the last four vary. I have gotten a few calls from people telling me not to call them when I had never done so. And once my husband got a call that showed his cell number as the caller ID for the incoming call. Very annoying.

I have missed calls and called back.  The person said they did not call me and wondered what I was up to.  Apparently, their number was being ghosted to call me.  I have an out of area cell number from a prior residence.  Anytime the call is from that area code/exchange I'm pretty sure it is a spammer calling me with a local bogus number.

I recently got a call for which my phone identified it as an agent whom I know. I answered and the recorded pitch was in Chinese (I think).

On the other hand, I have butt dialed a few people from time-to-time and quickly disconnected and had to apologize when they called me back.
