The government is not shut down. 75% of it has been funded and is functioning. Once it's up and running people will be back paid. If you're not in a government town to start with, there should be minimal impact.

Are you referring to the Federal Government of Washington, D.C.?   They should stay shut down, as in Forever.

Except, it's a ruse to deceive the American people.  Maybe 25% of those loafers are actually staying home... and they will get paid for those extra vacation days.

Will, I don't think they will.  If they are living paycheck to paycheck they have no business buying a home.  I would guess most federal workers know they are going to get their back pay if "furloughed" and a nice little vacation between Christmas and the New Year's Day.

The extreme partisanship in Congress is appalling.  In the last 20 budget years there have been 105 Continuing Resolutions to keep the government going because they could not pass a budget each year by September 30th.

It is an absolute disgrace that Congress can't meet their Constitutional obligations and present the President of the United States an agreed upon budget by the September 30th deadline.  If they couldn't perform that task in the private sector they would all lose their jobs.  They just play the game of passing a continuing resolution as each deadline expires because Republicans and Democrats can't come to agreement holding the President of the US hostage.

Shutdown should mean shutdown!!!!  I guarantee you that the Republicans and Democrats would come to an agreement quickly if all the airports were shut down because Homeland Security still isn't funded and federal law enforcement and prison guards were ordered to stay home, as well as the customs and border security.   They all play the game until one side blinks, and in the end the workers get several days off and get their full back pay.  Members of Congress funded the legislative branch before September 30th so they are good and getting paid up until the new FY 2020 budget begins on October 1, 2019!

We are a better nation than this having averaged over FIVE Continuing Resolutions PER YEAR the last 20 federal budget years.

Buying a home is a long-term commitment. The government shut-down will be short lived. Confusion may occur due to government agencies that deal with mortgages. FHA, for instance  may be slowed by the government shut-down. Those who are ready to buy and find the house that meets their needs should take the plunge.

Do I think it will impact whether people will buy/sell, no.  Short-term it will have an impact on some people's loans and paper work.  The shutdown is just another sympton of our dysfunctional government and leadership.  But, I believe the bigger/broader issues are already or mostly reflected in the stock market and overall distrust and uncertainty and that is being reflected in the real estate market, especially in the values.

I'm hoping in a few years that things will improve and get back to normal.  I hope it doesn't get any worse than it is now.

Many families in our area are impacted by the Trump shutdown. This creates uncertainty.

About 25 percent of federal workers may be forced to take furloughs or work without pay, according to Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, meaning thousands of Marylanders would be impacted.

There are 147,524 federal workers who live in Maryland. The state is fifth in the U.S. and District of Columbia in terms of how many federal workers call it home, behind California, Virginia, the District of Columbia and Texas, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

I do not think buyers or sellers will get nervous about the government "shut down." If they are in the PROCESS of buying a home, there may be some wrinkles if they're in a job where they aren't getting paid at the moment, or if they are using a government sponsored loan. Otherwise, this should not have an impact.
