I'm low maintenance! The last time I had surgery was for a broken arm about 8 or 10 years ago (I fell showing a house)! Before that, it was childbirth - 29 years ago! 

When I travel, it's for leisure, not surgery! LOL

When my step father wintered in TX it seemed like most of the people in his community crossed the boarder to have their dental work done. The funny thing is they said the Dr's were from the USA yet while working in Mexico they charge half what they charge their patients in the USA.

Yes, I've had about $4K worth of cosmetic dental work done about 20 years ago in Asia for about $800., received really impressive service and the quality work is still solidly in place. Plan to have some work done while in Europe next year. I'm covered, but some elective procedures go over the maximum coverage threshold or is not covered at all, like Brazilian Butt implants or Thai sex change operations...which I know nothing about.

Very important: I would not recommend picking a professional on price alone. Like anything else, investigate thoroughly.

Interesting Q. I personally have not.
However, I can tell two stories about people that I know.
One client went to Ukraine to have hernia surgery. Went off without a hitch for a fraction of the cost to do it here.
Another colleague of mine went to Mexico for a gastric bypass. Complications required him to be airlifted back to the United States. He's fine now, but lucky to be alive.
Having said that, I choose to avoid traditional medical doctors as much as possible.

I've always had full medical coverage and never even thought about that scenario..... I would never have surgery outside of the US.... and the Boston and area hospitals are "top notch".....

No. And when I lived overseas, I would return to the USA for any needed medical procedures or services and never saw a physician or dentist overseas who had not completed significant training in the USA or who was an American practicing overseas. There is a reason why the wealthiest foreignors come to the USA for medical services.

I have not, but I do know someone who would fly to Mexico for dental work. Said the airfare and work was cheaper than getting it done in USA, and the quality was great.

I don't know that personally though.

We get spa treatment in Europe all the time, its great prophylactics. While there many people do their dental work, get glasses, fix gastroenterological issues, women get treatment for obgyn issues, and much more.  Germany, Israel, England have great doctors and clinics at a fraction of costs of US medicine. Czech Republic, Hungary, Litvenia have great spa sanatoriums.
