Cigar and cigarette smoke odor removal is easy with the OdorFree smoke odor eliminator and also in buildings that have suffered fire and/or smoke damage.

Ozone is very effective in smoke odor removal because it destroys smoke odors at their source. As the O3 is circulated throughout the room or facility it oxidizes the fumes and smoke residue adhering to surfaces and even gets down into cracks and crevices. The ozone will follow the same path that the smoke took throughout the building, so it removes the smoke smell from soft materials such as carpets, clothing and upholstery.

Oh my, I'd be so mad, if my neighbors will smoke in their condo.

I remember, my grandma used wet towel to absorb it - some guest did smoke in the living room and grandma could not say 'NO" to that person.

I would.

I am sure, there are so many products on the market now.

COIT Cleaning & Restoration does a WONDERFUL job, Margaret. Here is the franchise locator to see if there is one near you.

They are also a good resource if you have a buyer with severe allergies and the sellers own dogs or cats. They clean the ducts and the rest of the house, from top-to-bottom. I've probably referred them to 20-25 clients and not one has had anything but, fabulous results from them.

Good luck!

Oh buy, I do not.  my neighbor smokes ... I have to close my windows when they are out because I can smell smoke a mile away.  Thankfully, it does not get inside my home.  I am sure you will find the perfect solution, Margaret. I wish you all the best with it.

Margaret,

This product proofed me wrong.  I was skeptical and did not believe it would take the smell of cigarette smoke from a condo.  After running for 24 hours, the smell was gone.  Click on the link to view the product.

For light smoke Ozone can be a solution.

For heavy 20 year smoke problems, elbow grease and rip out is the only solution.

If the instrusion is facilitated by a shared stack, the association should be called for remediation of cause.

Find a buyer who smokes like a chimney and it won''t matter. Good luck airing out the neighbor's place you don't have listed. Yellow sap resin from nicotine on their walls and furniture reeking of smoke 'em if you got 'em two at a time is a real estate curse. A pan of brownies fresh out of the oven is no longer a secret weapon to woo the buyer who's eyes hurt from the stale smoke in the air. Lower the price is all you can do.

I think there are ways to stop occupants from smoking indoors, but probably varies by state, building and condo regs, and lease. Are neighbors owners or tenants? If renters, I'd check with landlord to see if lease terms say no smoking. That could even show in the MLS when unit was listed for rent. Also, there are laws protecting kids from second hand smoke.

Anyway, for absorbing odors, food grade lime or lots of baking soda can help. Running a dehumidifier or air purifier/ air filtration system can help some. I doubt if either will totally eliminate all the smoke and odors.

Depending on how the smoke is entering, an exhaust fan system along the wall of the smoking neighbors could help.

https://no-smoke.org/resources-tools-smokefree-multi-unit-housing/

There are also some plants that help absorb odors, so that might be another option to consider.  https://www.mnn.com/health/healthy-spaces/stories/cleaning-cigarette-smells-with-plants

Amicus Green over in Kensington MD I think still sells this product that supposedlt absords odors. Might be worth trying a few out. https://www.amicusgreen.com/store/p111/Moso_Natural_Air_Purifier.html

This is a problem that I know associations have had to deal with in my area. It includes 2nd hand smoke BTW & they have went to court to have it stopped & won. It is also a village code.

I have used smoke bomb kind of stuff that works. Will come back with answer.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with any products that can help.  I've not experienced this issue.  If they're friendly with the neighbors, maybe ask them to relocate where they smoke while the unit is up for sale.  Neighbor MAY be willing to do that if they're friendly and it's approached in the right way.
