I tried it both ways years ago & I found the regular search with small pics did better. Not professional by any standards.

Although the IDX map search does not bring the leads that the standard search does, I still use both. Some people just like looking at the maps and it keeps them on the IDX pages and not going off to Google Maps (or their favorite map) and possibly being distracted from there. 

Interesting observation, I am glad that people have a choice.

I've never found map searches to be particularly in favor by those searching. But the option is there for those who like it.

Yes, you are right. 

List search is better.

I don't use maps in area pages -  they have higher bounce rates.

Could be because they tend to slow down page, could be that the maps from my IDX are not as good as Zillow, could be that people like to see property images immediately.  Don't know, I just know they perform better without them.

IDX is a thief, I do not participate in IDX. Take back control of your business or you'll be out of business in less than 3 years.

Corinne Guest is correct. IDX search works but only when you have high quality local content around it, above it, below it, etc. 

I have used that in the past, but I never really tracked the results to see if one way worked over the other.

My guess is that if you work an area where there's a lot of relocations and the buyers are not familiar with the area, the map search will be less useful.

That's an interesting question. Guess it depends on whether it's geography that dictates the search or just the attractions of the home. I think because most buyers start with "just looking", they probably first want to see what types of homes/amenities are available before focusing on a targeted area, so they know what to look for.

about 60% of my leads prefer map searches.  But I'm in a very unique market of "lake" properties and not neighborhoods and they know the area of the lake they wish to be.

I am 100% on board with Corinne Guest - she knows this inside out - has tested and retested ... she tracks, manages and monitors. 

I have not tested it, but I'd be surprised if Google could scan a map for SEO like it can a list.

Have not done an independent test!

I don't like search by map for customers, better by list searches.
