Downsizing whether it be lot sizes or orange juice is something that is a part of life these days(and as far as I remember) .

I did not see that Fred Griffin but then again I have not grocery shopped for over 20 years. As far as RE the lots here are still sized better then they were when my house was built (50 X 110). BTW I purchased the home next to mine, knocked it down, and split the lot and cost with my new neighbor.

Did not notice this Fred, I'll send some of my Florida friends over to get this sorted out.

Wasn't aware of the OJ shrinkage scandal.  Bill Belecheat and Tom Brady must be running these companies and "deflating" the size of the product.

Yes and it's getting more and more difficult for buyers to find land to build a decent sized home on, Fred! I'm working with one now that would love a lot in the heart of the city but, they're having to settle for a lot in the South Charlotte suburbs so they can build the home they want to build. They've become postage stamp lots!

As for the OJ - Indian River is our choice and like the others, 52 oz does not equal 1/2 gallon, does it?! We're two good glasses short of a 1/2 gallon but, paying the same price.

Well...that's not good news for me since the only OJ I can drink is the Tropicana low acid. Of course, the price didn't shrink when the size did!

Our favorite made its stepdown to 52oz. back in April. It isn't so bad that it's being done although the reasoning is downright disgraceful. And that's whether it's land, orange juice or toilet paper. Squeeze me all you want but please don't squeeze the Charmin!

Fred Griffin I didn't see the change on Tropicanna but did notice that a  gallon of ice cream is a bit smaller.  Ugh!  Guess that is why the economy of the 'big guys' is booming;  you & I are paying MORE for everything!

I see this a lot with Charmin TP and Bounty paper towels ... rolls are smaller and prices are going up.  Most of us feel the need to TP yet many might get away without paper towels. 

Yes, shrinkage is among us. 

Wow. I'd not noticed the orange juice changes... Fortunately, we don't have enough empty land around here for developers to make lots smaller like this, but I'll keep my out for it.

Damn Florida shorting you on the juice! What the hell is that? I never touch the bottled stuff. Always lemons/limes on my kitchen counter, I squeeze!

As for the lots, recent build projects have actually been on larger lots. We like wide open spaces around here and have lots of toys that need room for parking. I can understand where developers in other areas may be building all the way out on smaller lots to meet demand for low maintenance.

No central sewage here so zoning has been mandating larger and larger lots in new subdivisions to accommodate septic systems. The oldest lots are around 5,000 sq ft whereas new lots are now 20,000 sq ft. Somtimes those hated pesky regulations actually provide a benefit for us all.

Being in Silicon Valley, where prices are outrageous, we have developers cramming in homes on smaller lots.  Personally, I don't like the trend, but I can see how others would.  Less upkeep.

We've seen this in Charlotte for a long time. I see builders advertising estate sized lots that are a third of an acre.

not in my market where zoning made new division standards 1.1 acres.

The demand to downsize is also at work

well, think about that.... if a buildable lot is in demand, the price goes up no matter what the size....if it's a lot in a specially permitted density concept, anyone can build on it within the approved zoning regulations.... it's not less money because it's smaller than a more popular size, i.e., half acre vs 10,000s.f. .... 

I'm so glad I don't have to live on a postage stamp of land. 20 acres suits me just fine.

Didn't know about the OJ since I buy frozen and mix my own, but I've sure noticed other things. A "quart" of mayo is now 29 or 30 ounces. A "Half gallon" of ice cream is now 1 1/2 quarts. And it's best if I don't get started about all the trimmings and chunks of fat they add to a chicken or a turkey breast to make it weigh more. (And, I suppose to cut down on their waste disposal costs.)

In the retail grocery world it's called "miniaturization" and we pay more for it.

Not happening with lots in Martin County.  The code will not allow this.

In Oregon they are pushing high density. In order to have the urban growth boundary expanded, the state required the city to make the lots smaller and have more multi-family housing. And yes, the prices are still high as our town continues to grow.

Everything has become smaller and its actually a bit insulting it feels like they think people don't notice

Fred, yes this is a technique that is used to make you think you are getting more for your money, when in fact you are getting less for probably the same amount as before.

It is a very common thing to see lots shrinking.  Land is getting harder to find that will work for good development

That shortage of 7 oz means more room for the vodka

We ceased  rewarding this marketing approach by purchasing the products from manufacturers who play this deceptive game

We do not drink orange juice.  We have noticed the shrinkage method of charging more for less.  Very few lots around here, mostly large ranches and estates when it comes to land.  Some people have lost an acre or two thanks to the slides.  A
