Cranky and crotchety residents were disturbed that others were taking advantage of an economic opportunity.
Very much like how real estate agent get cranky when other agents are operating under a different business model. In essence, if someone does something different most won't like it!

But 'goverment' turned a deaf ear to the curmudgeons until they got the whiff of 'bed tax.'

Now they act for the benefit of the citizen.

Yes, most condo assn's do not allow them because of the short term quality. I report them every chance I get. Brings down values as it's a condo not a hotel.

There is a lot of discussion about it. My condo in Miami did not allow rentals shorter than six months (but some managed to sneak them in anyway...).

In CT, a 15% tax on such rentals was introduced to parallel hotel taxes. Our local CT town government is considering action after hearing complaints abour short-term rentals from neighbors of such properties, particularly in our lake vacation areas.

Yes, in the way of taxation.  However it's being fought.  and I truly hope this legislation comes to pass.  It's government over-reach in my opinion.

They have laws in place and after having sold several Airbnb's, I have a feeling major changes would have serious backlash from those owners, should the city decide to make changes.

Those making the changes may also find different results at the polls too - we have a huge population of Airbnb owners and some of them quite influential!

My particular municipality is not, but surrounding ones closer to the coast have made law restricting them.  I shouldadd that it has taken a lot of rentals off the market, thus jacking up rents in those towns to astronomical levels, as rentals have turned in "AirBNB" type rentals.
