      I carried a draft card ("Vietnam lottery") when I was in high school.  The year after I graduated, I volunteered and joined the US Air Force.

      If people want to dodge the draft that is their personal decision to make, and risk to take.  But gorging on pizza and hamburgers?  I don't think so!

I think it should be mandatory for every 18 year old male to serve a 2 year stint in the service.  Our country would be better off.

They would learn responsibility, respect and how to make a bed...they will then become accountable...just like the old school folks.

The women? dunno...I think at that age they already have more maturity then the men.

If it were not for the gullibility and invincibility in the minds of young men, we would have no one to fight our wars. It is this same reckless abandon that creates moments for with they may be criticized for 40 years later.

I think those who  serve in the military SHOULD get an extra vote in election season.

Those who have lived in a foreign country for over two years (not for military service) should get a extra vote.

Those who have completed higher education should get an extra vote.

....are raising children

....donate more that $10,000 to a local charity

The anarchy of democracy governed by the loudest and most obnoxious voice is displaced by those who have an investment in their country that goes beyond an accident in birth location.

But if they shoot their toes off....NO VOTE.

I am more inspired by people who had to use some deception to JOIN the military because they were too young!!!!

There were countless young men in the North who were under the age of 18 to join the army when the Civil War began.  How did they do it?  They placed the number 18 in the souls of their shoes and when asked, "Are you over 18?" they could truthfully answer YES!

Interesting that Korea give an exception for classical music championships.  I didn't even know there was a competition for this.

 

According to the article, they are being investigated and may have to serve a tour anyways.  Some that did two years of community service may end up doing another two in the military.

 

There have always been people who have avoided the draft or tried to.  Especially in countries with compulsory conscription.  Israel and Sweden come to mind as other countries with compulsory service.
