It depends on the circumstances/ situation,  life is generally too short to worry, so I ignore most inconveniences.  Most being the operative word.

It depends on the circumstances and the source as to how I respond. At the end of the day, I have no time in my life for such people so I have no interest in "helping" them. But I have been known to politely and quietly tell people that their comments are not appreciated and to not push me too far. No one has yet failed to "get" my  message when I do say something.

I'm usually am the one writing them, so I handle them well .

Seriously, I grew up with "ball-bustin'" so it takes someone I care about to cut deep on me, when strangers or acquaintances do it, I chuckle at the attempt and typically either one-up them for fun (twisted fun I admit) or just ignore it as I rarely have them time these days. It's fun to  pull a little Samuel L. Jackson monologue from Pulp Fiction or something  "And I shall strike down upon thee..."

 But, my mentors would simply say "rise above young man, rise above." The harsh comments on AR have driven some to quit and others to be kicked off. I suppose we're either making deposits or withdrawals in The Rain. 

99% of the time I'll blow it off but you could be a little more specific such as WHO made the comment and was it personal or about business Aida Pinto ?

I rarely get them and when I do, I find it humorous that it tends to upset other members more than me! 

As far as my response - it really depends upon the person. If I like them, I will say something (diplomatically). Otherwise, I just leave it alone and let them be seen for who they are - let their nastiness keep shining for the world to see!

If it's a negative comment on my listing then I pay attention to it.

It depends on who and how delivered. I'm capable of having a dispassionate argument.

If someone has a huge boner d u e to tiny spirit/obese ego, I will avoid. If I can I will delete, and if I can't I will report. This is rarely necessary, as the mood here is generally relaxed.

I just issued a stern warning on Facebook for people to quit putting me in real estate groups. It seems that stupider, the bigger the ego in those places.

If I can't have a good time, I'm not going.

You also have to spend a moment considering the source and rereading the comment to see what the intent truly was. Unfortunately many do not know how to communicate clearly. And understand even less.

When you figure out we all come from the same place of loving our kids and our dogs trying to make a living, it makes it easier to be objectively compassionate.

Ignore them if possible. Make the sale before you drop them.

Just ignore all it. It is not you. It is them. Or it was me. In my case I did not mean it. 

I know, it hurts. 

One of my "customer" ( she is UGLY and Skinny) said to me I have to lose wait. Yes, I know, I have to brush off some pounds. All I wanted to say to her - she should take care of her condo and do proper repairs and do not hire 85+ years old handy man to save money... 

I walked away and did not make any comments. 

Be better, do not take it hard. You have been through a lot. Just ignore this small stuff. It is a small stuff. 

I am sure, you have people around to talk. If you don't - call me. :) I always answer my phone. 

The best approach is to probably ignore or delete.  Folks that come with a negative or mean perspective are usually button pushers and will keep on pushing your buttons if they know it is getting to you.

     Get them out of your life.

     Don't let them pull you down to their level. 

     Unless you are a paid counselor, or therapist, don't waste your valuable time trying to help people like that.

We had a real doozy comment on one of our featured posts insulting both AR and us!  I left it there, because it showed everyone who read that post who that man was as a person.  I think that is the best revenge.  The public and the community at large now know who this is.  A

I prefer not to get involved in a negative dialogue. Depends on the circumstances if I feel the need to respond or ignore 

Most of the time I ignore it.. If its on social media and I have the ability to delete, I will.. If it was hurtful and mean and toward me, I will adress it with that person, privately.
If it is a recurring negative attitude, I may try to share a post or story about how you can make life better by not being negative..
As with anything,, it will depend on the situation...

It depends on the circumstances and who the offender is. If I feel it needs a reply, I will tactfully do so explaining my perspective.  If not, I ignore. 

Getting into a dual in a public forum is a losing proposition.

In another context, I am going with "depends". If it happens, I will handle it.

On here, report & delete.  Now a days, I just disable commenting to prevent the spams and the random negative comment left by a Q&A regular who got bent out of shape at my 8 market blogs a week.

As always, it depends. If I expect to have continued involvement with them, I try to understand, perhaps reach out, give them the benefit of the doubt for a bit. If I don't expect to interact again, I might brush it off or let them know they are being an ass. 

To us Michael Jacobs favorite comment...it depends!  If it is my consumer-focused post, I might delete it. If it is an ignorant or mean spirited comment, which I rarely get, I will leave it to let it speak for itself and be a reflection of the commenter. 

I have neither the time or inclination to mess with people like that. 

I consider the source and then move right on past it.

I use wit, wisdom, and sarcasm in that order.

Aida, once in a blue moon I'll address them, but generally, I ignore them and then delete them. Other people don't need to see things that might be off the rails. If it's a genuine criticism, I'll thank the poster and leave the comment there. 

I try to maintain a balance of being able to 'not sweat the small stuff' but if I am hurt by a particular comment, especially if it's someone I care about, then I value the relationship enough to honestly share my feelings.

It really does depend.  Igorne. Delete. Have a private hissy fit and then let it go. 

I try to get past the surface & get to what the problem is. Remain the calm one, get them calm. Then try & steer the conversation towards resolving the reason for their dissatisfaction.

If they're just a nut then I dissengage completely. 

You have to get a thick skin to be online. 

Your 'encouraging words' will mean nothing to anyone other than criticism. I hate people who tell me what to think/do/say.

Ignore it.

I am in the "it depends" camp as well. If it is someone that I am close to, I discuss until we both have an understanding of where we are coming from (which is different than agreeing with each other). If it is some comment from someone on social media or that I am not/will not be invested in, I have learned to let it go. That is not to say that it doesn't hurt or bother me though. 

Ignore, you'll never get to the bottom of another's issues.

When I first joined AR, I posted an anonymous question. It was legitimate, and I really didn't want my identity known. The responses were rude and humiliating. I brushed them off.

I do not have time for people like that.

You've got to determine what the "goal" is, first.  Do you intend to try to change their minds?  Are you trying to change the minds of the other readers?  Are you merely striking back?  Do you actually respect the commenter, or do you even care?

Once you're able to answer a few of those, the answer will automatically bubble to the surface on your magic 8-ball.

It depends how mean. If they do not agree then i may answer. If it is name calling meanness i could call them out. If it is the same pain in the butt i may ignore but report them

Observe and if prodded, ask questions. One learns to rise above or simply learn how to navigate through it all. Think bullfighter with bulls. The meaner the bull the better the bull-fighting lesson. At some point, fighting mean bulls produces a matador who is a master of the final experience.  That's our personal work. You are on that journey now. Trial & error

That's very situational depends if the comments are from someone I know or not. Are they online or are you talking about someone making a rude comment in person etc. Aida Pinto 

Comments on.....  it all depends on where they are coming from.

I would MODEL for them, in the guise of 'Do I understand you correctly."

Very often when they SEE their words presented in a gracious, kind and non-judgmental fashion they gravitate, in their behavior, to that model.

Some have been deprived of the common courtesies learned at the dining room table. All we can do is not propagate the problem and model the solutions.

BUT, should the person have revealed themselves to have NO REDEEMING VALUE, they would be ignored if banishment was unavailable.

You can't help everyone as  much as you might try. Life is short, choose wisely!

It really depends on the situation. Most of the time I just move on, but some comments may deserve a response. If someone is that negative I doubt there is much I can do to change that.
