If somebody texted me and I didn't respond, I would hope they would resend the text and or email and or call and ask me WTF?

I'd screenshot it with the time it came in & text it to my client saying "sorry my cell phone co. dropped the ball & I just got your message", I'll give you a call right now. As great as all our gadgets are it stinks when technology fails us.

Uh-oh! I've never had that happen on the receiving end but, have when I sent messages to others. If I don't hear back, I just phone them. 

That said, my clients know that if I don't respond within 2 hours, they should follow-up...something's wrong! LOL

yes it happens too often.... I often tell clients at the first meeting.....never hesitate to email and text if you don't hear from me ... in my normal time frame due to bad cell coverage etc.... they appreciate this ahead of the excuse that is out of our control at times....

That has never happened to me... thankfully, but I suppose there's always a first time... I don't use Verizon so can't comment on their service. Obvioustly, no guarantees with any service provider as to instantaneous delivery.

So here is what most people don't know about text messages...

  1. There is no special "text message protocol" or sub network.
  2. Text messages get sent and received on the same part of the signal used to do the handshakes with the nearest cell towers.
  3. There is no "quality of service" on text messages.  This means that if it shows up right away, an hour later, or six months later (as has happened), that's perfectly acceptable to the cell phone providers.

Yikes.  I've never had that happen.  My clients know, and I actually tell them this, that if they are not getting a response from me, I am either dead, in the hospital in a coma, or I did not get the message.  Some giggle when I say that however, it is true.

that's terrible.... when I was last active, I used the phone or did face to face ....my builders did not text!! and buyer communication for new homes was by email....I wanted a papertrail....

That hasn't happened to me personally. However, I have had a very important email end up in my spam box. I simply replied with: "I am very sorry for the delayed response, but your email went to my spam box, for some strange reason." I imagine you could say something very similar to the text message dilemma. - Tim
