It’s not a feeling...it’s illegal to pay a non-licensed individual a referral fee....but we can say thank you in a very meaningful,  non monetary way.  The same way we refer our trusted vendors, or doctors, or attorneys.  As a professional we do get referred and it’s not expected we pay for that...that’s why it’s a referral.

As a licensed agent I feel they are illegal.  However unlicensed persons can pay finders fees to other unlicensed persons for finding the buyer in Georgia.

its illegal as many agents here have said..if youre asking what I think you're asking, I have paid a referral fee to a licensee who is inactive but pays the fee to renew. Therefore, he has the ability to collect referral fees. Buyer came direct to me and the inactive licensee later approached me asking for a referral because he is related to the buyer. No way shape or form is he involved in real estate..he passed the test 20 years ago and is CLUELESS...Totally wrong and unethical and I think it should be ABOLISHED!! We are the only industry that allows this bull crap!

In the real estate industry there are only a few professionals that can receive payment for the sale of real estate. Licensed agents through their broker, independent brokers, CPA's and Lawyers can also at least here but I have never actually seen it happen.
