The arrangement should be clarified ahead of time to avoid misunderstanding - but usually the host agent keeps the leads acquired during an open house.

Those are generally the leads of the agent that hosted the open house.  I would not be claiming a right to those - the other agent generated those leads by hosting the house open. 

It's helpful to have other Realtors hold open houses in my listings, giving the homes additional exposure if held at a time I couldn't hold the open house myself. Any leads they take away, are theirs to keep for holding the open house.

I work that out in advance of the Open House. Usually if someone is hosting the event for me, solo, they get whatever leads come in. That's the benefit for them doing it for me.

It should be discussed/agreed upon prior to the event so there is no confusion. 

The only time I got real leads from an open house is back in the HUD repo days.

In our Area , those leads usually stay with the Agent who hosts the Open (unless the Listing Agent is paying them $$$$ )

If an another agent is holding an open house for me and an unrepresented guest comes in, that lead belongs to the agent who is holding my open house.  That is their "payment" for helping me out.  My interest is in getting the listing sold.

Praful ~ The leads go to the one that holds the Open... unless agreed to differently up front.  I have a cousin in real estate in Washington State, when he does an open house for one of the brokers listings, he gets a 50% split on any business they generate.

I would never take leads away from an agent who did an open house for me! 

The SOLE reason my sellers request an open house is to SELL the house. The rest is 'fluff' and if he/she gets a buyer from hosting for me, I'm thrilled for them!

Why did the agent hold the house open? To get business, of course.

The leads go to the agent who generated the leads…not you if you did not hold the open house.

what Kathleen Daniels said, whoever hosts the open gets the "Buyer" leads is how I've always handled it, make it clear who gets what before the open.

I wouldn't since they would be their leads.

That is predetermined. Remember, manage expectations. I do let people from my office hold my vacant listing OPEN and I tell them this:

They can have all the leads from the open, but if the lead buys my listing, they owe me a 25% referral fee.

And I'll assume if they bring a buyer, it was a lead unless they show me a BRE dated well before the open.

This is not a problem I have as 99.9% of my clients do not want an open house and specifically request I not do them. However, my feeling is that if someone is sitting your house and takes all that time to do so, the leads belong to that agent and not the listing agent.

Generally the agent hosting the Open House gets the leads, unless you have a prior arrangement where you want a referral or some other arrangement. 

If the buyer wants to go around that agent and deal directly with the listing broker, yourself, then I would suggest a referral to the agent who did a good job presenting the home.

Like Maria said this should be addressed prior to the open house.  I would think the hosting agent has the leads.

If an agent works an open on MY listing they have to market the open and then they keep the leads.

It should be discussed in advance of the open house. Generally, the person hosting gets the benefit, but other arrangements can be made.

The other agent gets the leads unless you agree on something else up front. Otherwise why would that agent want to hold the house open?

Usually hosting agents keeps the leads generated.

I normally leave them to the other agent to work.

Not trying to make a big scene out this...... Some brokers come in my listing started handing out cards. When I stare at them they do not get it.....

A referral fee is involved.
