No. That would mean real estate students in Utah would have questions if a common law marriage is really a marriage.

"History, there's just so much of it!"
Oh F me!
Interesting topic, and I think useful to understand. I recall discussing feudalism in my initial licensing course. Like you said, we could go back way further..
Under all is the land--but that land wasn't always available to all.

Sounds like a science fiction plot. History started in 1450 AD. Everything prior didn't happen.

If the "history" is truly relevant today and one needs to know it to transact real estate then it needs to be taught. Most of the material taught to obtain a license is not needed or necessary. IMHO. What we truly need is learned in the trenches - at least "hopefully" it is learned.

Annette,
Some like history some do not. History is often relayed from the perspective of the writer, it often has nothing to do with the truth. I studied French hisotry in French schools, and the same history came up in US but told differently...A

I think the Byzantine Emperor Constantine XI would disagree with that, as he was crowned at Mistra in 1449.
I think they should worry about teaching business and finance management as well as how to be a Realtor with out being a Jackass.

I'd be happy if more paid attention to what happened in the 1930's and 40s.
Those who do not study history are bound to repeat it.

I'm surprised they didn't limit it to 1960 and beyond. You know, so they can ignore the holocaust to make Mel Gibson happy and then ignore the civil rights movement and slavery to make the snowflakes happy. Although one could answer we're all slaves to something, either debt, employers, etc.

"History there's just so much of it," I think that is the point.
Maybe modern brains can't hold as much information as the old brains can. (Your phone only has so much memory).
Interestingly enough, 1450 was the year that they attribute to the invention of the printing press. So I guess the written word is obsolete.
As for marriage, I am seeing more and more young people buying homes before marriage. Something that I discourage unless they have an ironclad agreement in place before they take possession. Most don't. Many will result in heartbreak if the relationship sours. At least if they are married the divorce will settle the assets.

There is a lot of irrelevant stuff taught in the pre licensing classes. Wonder if some of the instructors have any practical knowledge? Or, they are,on theAP content committee

I don’t think that marriage will come into it except only as Title is taken today and how Fair Housing may apply. Maybe The AP board should include more about the practicalities of buying real estate. Wouldn’t hurt and they need to know. Thatsreal life.

Before I went down the road of political commentary (which I don't like to share publicly), thankfully I read Richard Weeks' answer. Wonderful comic relief - thanks, Richard!
