If they're going to keep it locked they need a video buzzer or an intercom buzzer.  Maybe there was someone from NAR there and they had to hide them first.  LOL  Maybe call ahead next time?

It is open, no auto locks, but the parking is very expensive and they do not validate( like $3 for each 15 min), so they do understand that they should not make you wait.

Some boards operate with only 1 person in the office... It's bad when you went out for spicy food the night before and you're stuck in the little boys/girls room unable to answer the door... 

Not certain of the issue at your board, however, if the door needs to be locked and they will be unable to answer for a short time, it would seem to be a common courtesy to at least post a note on the door...

Probably not, but many businesses on office buildings keep their door locked because they don't want people just walking in off the street using their bathrooms.

Our old office was in a rough part of town and they too had a locking system. I didn't like it at all but they usually answered withinga couple of minutes.
