About 75% of my marketing budget is spent on print - the online sites are not that expensive and I get great return from them (and I post on about a dozen sites - all are syndicated to many, many others).

Print marketing includes nice, glossy brochures, farming cards, correspondence cards and the occasional magazine ads - mostly done for high-end or 'odd' listings (like equestrian or lake properties).

Zero for print, zero on advertising on sites. You have a wrong idea on the word advertising. ROI is great on blogging. Do not know the #.

I mail targeted letters which are printed from my office. It is not enough to attempt to calculate the cost or %.

The Internet is a small amount as well. Blogging is time invested.

I dont do much advertising, once in a while I may boost a post on fb but that is about all i have done in recent years.  Though I am thinking about a postcard campaign, just not sure if I want to go that route.

Zero on print.  I get flyers printed but that comes out of the "cost of a listing" bucket.

Internet advertising so far has been zero ROI.  Some almost clients, but nothing worth writing about yet.

Best ROI has been Active Rain and the Q&A section!  Had a couple referrals in and one out because of it last year.

It really depends on your market place.  One of our clients only does print ads.  The profit margin is gynormous as is the ROI.  This is an apples and oranges question.  A

I do not advertise. I'm 100% by referral.

I do market my business and I do market my listings. 75% Print and Monthly.

But, there is a big difference between advertising and marketing.

I post to 5 or 6 different sites and all are wordpress plus ActiveRain.... our listings come from offline marketing....initiated by postcards...and the homeowner will go online to see what our internet presence is....

I don't buy ads online....  and offline is significantly more expensive but it's worth the expense....my referral fees for each listing pay for mailings and leave me a profit...

I vary what I do and believe I just need to keep my face in front of the public. Last year, I took out an eye catching one page ad in our upscale CARMEL MAGAZINE. People still remember it although no one was beating down the door to give me business. Although in a round about way I got a big listing because of it. This year I'm putting my money into lead generation and that had an instant result. I've also joined the Chamber again, but that won't really show to the public until the new printed guide comes out mid-year, so we'll see if I get anything from that. I'm all over the internet with various websites that I own, social media (just expanding that ) and, of course, blogging here. I don't pay attention to the buzzwords like ROI (I get a lot of calls from people who want to help me for which they want money, of course) but I just go with my gut feelings about marketing. Everything helps but there is no magic bullet.

Promotion, advertising is not just thrown money at the problem for a solution. Home grown in your back yard works best unless you don't have the plan Stan. Print is not dead but needs to be used differently and in coordination with your other marketing. YOUR website should be planted, watered, weeded, fed nutrients daily. YOUR social media pages should be populated with your own word. Your local images, videos, blog posts to create authority to expand your reach with healthy helpful not obnoxious presentations of information that saves money and time for OTHERS  Victoria CB Trees ! But printed brochures to stock the tourist information centers, local newspaper ads, some trade journals for niche audiences are part of the budget. Farming for listings needs something to ride inside the mailing. Never put a percentage on it. Invest in equipment to create your media stream.

Definitely more on internet advertising! However our office has a deal with a local paper to reserve the back cover each week and my listings go on there depending what we are promoting, like “houses over 1MM”, or “houses under 900K” or “new to market” etc and the few is reasonable about $50.

Virtually none. I will put each listing into Homes & Land at $55 per ad once when we first list... and the rationale here is not the print, but the listing going on their website.
