This is so funny because I deleted it just last week over this very reason. I couldn't stand it. 25 people an hour saying 'hey' or whatever it's called. Good luck!

That is why I refused to install Messenger. I just use the website on my phone for anything Facebook related.

I was going to say what Nina Hollander  said. Wish I could help as I only get direct messages and that's minimal.

I hope you find a solution.  I do not have it on my phone.

I turn mine off and only see it if i go to messenger. Also turn off notifications.

You could just turn off the messenger and you won't see anyone's day unless you go to messenger to see it.

I don't receive those messages, I only receive messages addressed specifically to me. But couldn't tell you how I got there. Sorry, Praful.

I have messenger and I have never seen anyone's day.  It's only private messages I see there.

That is why I don't install the Messenger, too distracting.

Unfollow, opt out, mute a person for a day. I never participate in group texts. 

Oh yes. Change your settings. You don't have to see posts or notifications from pests.

I have heard this from others

I don't get a lot of messages.  Only once in a rare while from someone with something important to pass onto me.  I must have the settings set correctly - but I don't know how!

I have resisted installing Messenger for a variety of reasons. As Ron and Alexandra Seigel pointed out we are being spied on by these Social Media octopi ;-) But then they do penalize you now as well.. our FB BP posts are specifically being blocked from hiting the feeds of even our Followers and Likes. THEY WANT TO GET PAID lol

Just installed Messenger recently too. All those people "waving" at me...creepy! But if I don't have it installed, I can't see my son's messages to me, and that's the ONLY reason I installed it in the first place. 

I think Beth has the right answer..... I don't see anyone's day unless I go to messenger.....

I had it on for a week last September because I was hanging out with some people from Europe who didn't have phone service out here, just wifi at the hotel.  Deleted it shortly there after.  Sorry, can't help you there... I've also deleted all my social media apps from my phone.

I would remove it.

This is exactly one of the many ways FB spies on you.  The Wall Street Journal and no doubt others just exposed how FB spies on you through this.  They push ads and hope you buy.  A

I do not use Facebook messenger for this very reason.

I detest this app, yet when I refused to get it on my phone it bugged me a thousand times a day to install it.

You can set it so that messages do not show up, but this setting seems to be only temporary.

I like messenger because you can communicate without carrier charges (e.g. texts) and with those overseas. You should be able to block those messages, I do not see them; sorry do not know how.
