IDGAF, I'm not taking Bitcoin for payment on my durable asset. I would prefer shells and beads, thank you.
Watch, the headline in two years will be "California home seller sues buyer of home as Bitcoin value plummets to zero."

Home is where the hearth is.

I don't see how this will impact MLS's at all.  They don't need to indicate the method of payment at all.... they don't currently say "payment must be made in valid US currency"

the CMA wouldn't change, either... the analysis would be in US Dollars, and it would be up to the buyer/seller to determine the value of the bitcoin, stock options, or balls of twine.

I'm a lot less freaked about bitcoin than I used to be.  My husband invested in some. You cash it out in dollars to use it, just like a stock.

I want to pay with something more tangible, like fiat paper currency, or the tin coins cranked out by the U.S. Mint, or the electronic funds in my bank account.

Some people have no sense so they will accept bitcoin. Others not so fast. No effect on the MLS or CMA'S.

As long as the dollar is kept as the standard it will be fine.  Though I would have doubts about proof of funds when those funds are going up and down daily.

Here in NC & SC, we are attorney states. State law will likely not allow bitcoin in exchange for real property.  It's not up to the MLSs, it's up to the attorneys who accept the fundingfor each transaction.

If they do allow the attorneys to determine if they want to, I don't see that coming for a very long time.

I did know that real estate transactions, although few at this time, have been completed using Bitcoin.

If the property is in the MLS I imagine it will be reported as a cash sale at the bitcoin value.  If the values are reported correctly completing a CMA should not be an issue. Bitcoin is a factor that will need to be taken into consideration.

Bitcoin...good for gambling if people so choose, but a highly unstable "currency". Complicates any transaction, I would just keep things simple and keep it a traditional USD sale.

Some mook in Malibu is offering up his place for bitcoin as well.  I think mainly to get publicity since the state's contracts are only in USD and short of selling the bitcoin for real money, you can't use it to purhcase anything.

Maybe the MLS would need to integrate a currency converter that automatically computes the price according to the current rate.

From what I have read in the past couple of weeks concerning Bitcoin, I do not see it as lasting in value. It has lost about half during that time.

If I were selling a home, I would not accept Bitcoin.

In my broker days, I obtained and surrendered real estate for values not bitcoin or dollar based. In one case, inventory was the currency.

The mechanisms are there. However, the caveat is 'whose CC exchange will be used?

I'll give you six goats, a ruby, and a rare and valuable hand woven carpet hand crafted in Turkey for that single seater condo. This is when the agents who have reached the pinnacle of real estate, the transaction architect will prove to be of great value.

Not sure how it would affect mls.  Our mls we record sales price.  How it is paid for is not a factor.

This can be interesting.

We are not that advanced, but i'm sure if buyer and seller agree to use digital coins, escrow and title will comply, it is just difficult to get the rate with all these drops in market.
