I set my filters to delete their emails from the server. Many of those kind of companies you cannot use the unsubscribe feature because they'll unsubscribe you from that list and then they'll sell your ass to another list ad infinitum. It's the worst kind of sleaze.

The company I owned before getting into real estate was one of the leading email marketing companies.  I actually worked on the CAN-SPAM legislation. The link in the last sentence takes you to the Wikipedia page with the requirements, which every Realtor should know and abide by. According to the law, you must stop mailing to someone who requests to be removed.  All of the major email marketing firms have strict policies about this.  If the mail is sent through one of the major companies, (Constant Contact, Mail Chimp, SubscriberMail, etc), send an email to abuse@the companies domain.  They will kick them off their platform (unfortunately they will most likely move to another platform). Look at the bottom of the email to see what email service they are using.  If it is one of the common ones, definitely click unsubscribe, those systems are automated, and even if the person tries to re-input your name, the server will reject it.

The way emailers know you have opened a message is by using a pixel tracker.  It is a small single pixel that is invisible to the eye but opens a small 1-pixel image - that transmits the fact that you opened it (along with quite a bit of other information) back to the emailer.  So if your messages open in preview, they have already tracked that you opened it.  Does not matter at that point (so the comment about validating you if you click on unsubscribe is not completely correct, as in most cases unless you have images turned off, they already know they are reaching a legit address.

There are tools, the one I used is called SpamSieve that are quite effective.  It is a tool for Mac's only, but in essence, it stops images from loading on questionable messages, and it learns patterns of abusive mail and then blocks it.  The stand-alone tools are more powerful than those built into most mail clients or Gmail.  

Some mail software can make the email "bounce."  This sends a message back to the sender telling them they are trying to mail to an address that doesn't exist.  Most email companies will eliminate an address from the database after a set number of these "hard bounces."

Finally, you can complain to the FTC.  Send an email to spam@uce.gov .  Include the entire email.  This is the same organization that publishes the DO NOT CALL list.  Unfortunately, I get hundreds of calls to my numbers that are on the list.  I fear that reporting an email to them is just about as effective.

There is another side to this conversation.  I have personally found that some Realtors don't follow the law on this.  Follow the law, don't email someone who doesn't want to hear from you (use other methods to reach them if you must).

Praful Thakkar Unfortunately by clicking on their unsubscribe link, you confirmed you are a real email address. You will probably continue to receive their emails. Put their email address in your spam folder.

Click on the Spam block; my phone (android) & email (Yahoo) have that option.

Getting 100 to 150 unwanted emails every day takes me about 50 seconds to sift through. I check as I progress and delete those at the end. Unsubscribing is definately not as effective as it should be. Sometimes I contact the company, recording to whom and when I spoke to them. Unfortunaely I cannot call all of the nearly 4 billion users in my lifetime, only thosethat annoy me the most.

     DM them on social media.  Tell them if they don't stop, you will blast bad posts/tweets about them to all of your followers.

There is not much we can do Praful Thakkar - delete.  I recently had a very robust spam filter installed by my hosting company.  Very little spam gets through ... 95% is directed to a spam filter.  Love having a clean in box.

Once I went to their website, looked up their contact info and sent over a message that had a link to the canned spam law and a copy of the email addresses I used to report them for violation and the attorney's email address I'd copied on my report.  I never heard from them again.

Personally, I just block them.  But, you could go a step further and email them that they are violating anti-spam laws and there are legal consequences.

There are some good suggestions. Unsubscribing clearly does not always work.

Unsubscribe: the act of clicking links to confirm the email address has an active recipient increasing that addresses value in the 'list' marketplace.

The very best action is set filters to send directly to trash.

Create a rule to direct any emails from that company directly to trash. That way, you don't have to even seem them, Praful!

I would report it as spam to Google email

Well I think they have 48 hours but I bet that 90% don't pay attention.I have noticed that agents now do not have the unsubscribe which is against the law. 

I forget who you report them do. cc them on the letter lol.

They are supposed to unsubscribe you once you ask - part of the Cam Spam act.  If they don't, they are in violation of this law.  I guess you could report them.  But I would just put them in my junk folder and forget about them.

You can try to block them.

Delete and move on.  Just like we do from the 100 email we get every day.

I have found when you unsubscribe, you get a plethora of new unwanted mail. Guess they pass your verified address around!

Ignore it.

I mark as a spam and delete them in bulk. Every time you open, they see it.

Have not had that issue

Mark them as junk and you will never see them again.

Mark it as spam and it will go to your spam folder.  

I use an old AOL account to do my shopping

I use Unroll.me, a free service for my Gmail. They do it effectively.
