If I know something they want or need I get it. If not I default to money.

# 3 - Gifts.

For my stepson? I just open up my freaking wallet. The others, they're cool and sentimental. So it has to be something carefully selected.

A mixture pending the person. It's about knowing them and what they like best.

I think that our society is too focused on meaningless gifts given just for the sake of obligation.

Some small gifts and a check to spend however they want -

Presents. Money and gift cards are very unsatisfying, I think, at Christmas. Makes the whole thing so impersonal, like I don't really want to think about what they might like.

Our adult grandchildren and children have preferred gift cards for many years. I still buy incidental gifts to go with the gift cards.

Gifts and always add an Amazon gift card the last few years, so they can pick up something else that THEY want and it will be delivered to them - they don't have to go cash-in a gift card in a store.

No small children left in line to buy for,  and we adults make charitable donations as gifts to one another.

I buy gifts.  Sometimes it's what I want people to have and not what they ask for.  I buy children books and ornaments.

Gifts for some family members who exchange gifts with us.

My parents would buy one sentimental gift and give me a check to spend at the sales after Xmas.  A

My sibs and I decided that once the kiddos go off to college the gift thing stops. I found that (like most everyone) the like cash. I don't buy adults gifts for the holidays but if I see something during the year that has their name on it I will. My gift to my parents is ME without bitchin' about being in that wretched weather (central NY) for a few days!

Since we have no young children in our immediate family (waiting for grandchildren!), we give gifts to our adult children and parents.

For family: yes, for clients: depends, for prospects: only cards.

I like to give teens a knitted Christmas sweater. They really appreciate having something fresh to wear after Christmas break.

I'm horrible to shop for, because when I want something I just go and buy it.  This year I've decided to get a soda stream machine, so my folks got me the deal at Costco (I acutally picked it up yesterday when I did a Costco run and put it on their card).  They took it and will give it to me on the day.

I tend to ask people what they want, then go get it.  For gift exchanges and such, I usually do a gift or a gift card.

When it got to be just exchanging gift cards with adults, we stopped. We buy a mixture of gift cards, presents and give money for the teens. I will buy a gift if I find one that is perfect for someone but most adults in our families buy what they want when they want it and don't need more "things".

We generally just do the close family and we know what they want (e.g. expensive Apple products!); do gift cards as fillers and practical stuff (e.g. Instant Pots or other kitchen needs) plus fun little things.

I do not like to give money, a mix of gift cards and gifts if i know they will use that gift

For me, I want each and every person to be able to say, 'I lived in a house that had a book."

What do you imagine I will give teens and adults. Something that will feed their mind and spirit.
