It's less than yours and certainly not increasing at the rate yours is. But to tie inventory levels to membership cost is not rational... the cost of running the mls is still the same. And are you then arguing if inventory levels explode your membership costs should also explode?

Any extreme account of bizarre behavior, irresponsible action, illogical rules and predatory entrapment are easy dismissed by saying. "Oh, it's California. What did you expect?"

My MLS fees are around the $250 annual. However, be aware, fees are based on the number of members, NOT inventory. All 1,600 agents would still pay 250 annual even of the inventory contained one house.

DANG!  Our association dues came out yesterday at $520 and change.  They tried to stick us for $53 of rpac and other lobbying fees but I opted out of those online ( Teri Pacitto ).

Our MLS dues aren't until Q1, but I expect them to be the same if not more.  Really makes me want to get an MLS only membership to OC association for $500/yr total.  Of course, that has no CAR or NAR associated with it.

I think the cost is based on the benefits provided, not the inventory available to sell. My fees are almost the same as yours and I'm in a county of 25,000 people wtih 150 agents. You have far more opportunities than I do and I'm willing to bet your MLS provides more benefits than mine based on the sheer size of it.

I'm sorry, Sam.  I know what the average home sells for in the San Francisco Bay Area.

One sale... hell, one RENTAL, more than covers your entire year of MLS dues.  And I happen to know that your MLS is a good one.

I don't feel sorry for you, man.  I just don't.

I am with MLSLISTINGS too but it's not due yet for a few months for me so don't know the number. I belong to another MLS in northern California through Del Norte Association of Realtors which charges me $65/month plus the annual fee for them and CAR and NAR. Then I belong to the Honolulu Board of Realtors and pay my dues for them and HAR and their MLS. Total fees over $3,000/year. Then you have periodic license renewals and continuing ed. I also have a brick and mortar office, small but in the best area of Carmel-by-the-Sea. Add other expenses of running an independent brokerage and it all adds up, but the rewards are big and I wouldn't do it any other way.
