I can't say for certain but anecdotally, it certainly seems to be true in our area.  

we've seen alot of trees with leaves that have mold...when they fall on the lawn, it does damage to the grass....ugh

Not here in Pennsylvania or western New York or northeastern Ohio. 

A lot of forests in your part of the country are a bit past their prime, too many well meaning pseudoenvironmentalists who would rather see a forest die of bugs, disease and fire than let anyone manage and thin the forest to keep it healthy.

We see that in the historic disctict of Charlotte with big rain storms - the century old massive tree balls/roots just can't keep hold when the ground is full of water. The law of physics takes over and the weight of the 40+ foot trees topples the right over.

I don't know that the number of tree casualties is increasing though, Nathan! 

Yes absolutely. The ecology is getting weaker and these are some of the affects. Its only going to get worse unfortunately.

Nathan Gesner this was a hard year on trees in ND as we had our worst drought state wide that we have had in decades.

Yes.  Out here we've had a bug and a disease killing lots of trees.  A beetle is a big culprit out here.  Took out a plum tree of mine.  Pine trees are dying all over from the alleged drought and the cutting back on watering.

I think that drought conditions have really weakened them. We also had the emerald ash borer trash 1/2 the trees in IL.

I've noticed this happening in the national forests for several years.

Have not given it much thought living in downtown Chicago! Maybe?

I noticed the same thing here in the Kenosha area.

Here in BC (Canada) we have Pine Beetle we are losing our pine trees like crazy. I also think weather is much wilder than it was years ago.

I have noticed some in my neighborhood that are diseased and dying. I sure hope this isn't something that is a trend with nature.

drought then heavy global warming weather anomalies like flood rains, hurricanes and high winds = your  concern with the trees.

In my area they are dying from fire.  So sad.  Beyond that, I have not noticed. But dry trees from years of drought may tend to die and/or break. 

Here too, we had gypsy moths and then some other bug i had never heard of an Ash borer. Winds are whipping here now Nathan Gesner 

We get ice storms every five years or so that can break them.

On my property no, but then I spray for bugs.  In my neighborhood yes.

It is happening in my hood as well. Trees are old, infected and it is too hot for them:(

Nathan we've lost 2 trees this year. In fact I was just talking to landscaper about taking them both down this week.

We have very warm weather and our trees and plants think it is spring. Freezing will do much damage.

Can't say I've particularly noticed that in my area. The last time I noticed a lot of trees dying was the year we were in drought conditions and they couldn't be watered due to restrictions.

It seems like more people need to plant new trees.

There are serious bug infestations and many of them travel here from Asia, e.g. China via the numerous boat shipments of all kinds of goods we get from there. 

I haven't noticed a difference here in NY.  I would expect this to be the case in California and areas where there were hurricanes.

WE have dutch elm issues and Oak wilt.   but otherwise all is  normal

Nathan Gesner We live on a wooded lot and we're picking up dead branches all the time. I think it is mostly contributed to the winds.

Several types of trees are indeed disappearing from the landscape some is due to disease.

I lost 5 trees last year due to being 20 years old.  

Here in California we've been seeing huge tree die-offs. Yosemite is plagued by this. They need to get in and start cutting them down.
