Not cool in my book.  I wouldn't like to see people at my family's gravesite who don't know who is buried there whoop it up.  My vote is it's in bad taste.

I'm not big into themed parties to start with and haven't been to a Halloween party since the 1970's. I consider cemetaries a bit of a "holy" place and would not attend any parties in such a location. I sure wouldn't want people partying around my family's gravesites in NY.

Part of me thinks it an appropriate themed venue, especially for a "Dia Des Muertos" event (I probably butchered that spelling).  Spanish for "Day of the Dead" to celebrate those that have gone before.

"A real live cemetery".  That just struck me funny.  In any event, I do understand the question.  I feel the concept is disrespectful to those who are resting there. It is not something I would participate in.

I doubt it would occur in the actual burial area, would it? Especially if it is put on by the cemetery. I would think it would be in the event center area where funerals and memorials take place. 

While in college, we had to act out part of a book for an English class. My group chose a funeral scene and we filmed in a cemetery. The director came out and asked what we were doing. Once we explained, she told us that we should have asked permission first but would allow it (we were thinking it was public property). She then told us that she had never seen a funeral where everyone wore black, which of course, we were all wearing!

Of course we all imagine visitors square dancing on the plots of the deceased. But the reality is, a pavilion  distant from the final resting places will be the site of the party. Headstones visible in the background.

Once a year, my town has the DUNEDIN COMES ALIVE which takes place in the local cemetery and re-enactments of the achievements of the founding citizens interned there is managed by local Dunedin residents.

No desecration takes place but I am sure there are some who object.

I do have the energy and curiosity to see what's going on in my community. You never know when a really great person of vision and commitment will be encountered.

Now, let's talk about those who walk their dogs in the same location.

How can a cemetery be live?  I am not a fan of scary things or cemetaries.  I have enjoyed touring the ones with ornate mausoleums in Buenos Aires and in Europe.  It seems disrespectful to have one in a cemtery, but I doubt the dead care.  LOL A
