Oh, oh, I know this one! "Cornice" is the term/phrase that is used when someone secures the perfect 'corn on the cob' at their local yearly fair! (no need to fact check on this one) - You know, right after you've taken that first bite & yell out "this Cornice!"

Bob Crane makes a good point with the avalanche reference, we have skied the cornice in some ski resorts, it is usually the highest point and when one looks down as to how to get down, one wonders why they are there!

A cornice is a top piece usually decorative around an eave, window or doorway. Or at least that is what it is in Tennessee.
