You never signed up with Equfax to collect your data. They collect it from the merchants you shop with and the agreement is between them! You maybe able to tell all your merchants not to release to them, but then you have no credit and no need for a file.

They will ignore your request. The best thing to do is to Freeze your credit report

     Good idea, Caroline.   But you are dealing with an entity that is in league with Big Banks et al.   I don't know that anything will come of it.

Sadly I expect they will ignore you. But glad you are persuing it! Perhaps if enough people fight back/sue something will happen

My guess is they will ignore your request. All the credit reporting bureaus are basically data compilers.

This is a very bad situation for so many, but truly believe they will ignore this.

They will probably laugh at it right before they throw it in the trash.

Given how long and hard they've tried to hide the matter, especially given the enormity of the incompetency leading to the enormous theft of sensitive data; they'll surely be putting more effort into mitigating their own troubles rather than mitigating ours.

After they snicker and roll their eyes?  Ignore the request. 

They cannot be trusted, clearly and I have no expectation they would do the right thing in any situation. 

They'll throw it away.  They don't answer to the consumer.

I doubt they will honor this.

File your request in the circular file and or delete. I am not sure they are up to anything these days excet charging us to protect our credit they ruined

Nothing.... There will be another credit bureau after Congressional Hearing.... 

I bet they will let you drop them and there wlll be a line that says they are no longer responsible for any issues that me occur from that day forward.
