Help Build Hope. Our church does an annual Build The Walls event in affiliation with this group, typically building the frames for 4-6 houses in a bit over 4 hours. There's a pre-cut team the day before so all the wood is stacked and ready to go on Saturday morning. Then Saturday about 500 people volunteer. It's an amazing experience.
"Help Build Hope events provide a "teachable moment" for teaching the importance of worship, service and discipleship within the body of Christ. The tool we have selected to use in teaching these principles is the framing and construction of homes for those who need housing. A Help Build Hope event brings these wall framing projects directly to the parking lot of your church, camp or convention. When the walls have been framed there is a prayer and dedication service after which the walls are donated to a partnering organization. This partnering organization will then take the home to completion."

My favorite charities (Love Inc & Hope International) help with housing indirectly, as a part of the whole project. I have never worked with a charity that is all housing based like Habitat for Humanity, though we do support our local rescue mission, which focuses on homelessness. I would be interested to know what a charity you are thinking of starting would be set up like and what the primary objective would be for it? -Kasey

None. I absolutely can't stand Habitat for Humanity. I worked three jobs, earned a Master's degree, sacrificed a social life during my 20s as well as much more so that I could afford to buy a house. Sorry, but I don't believe in handouts. Yes I know they have to help build it, so what! I had to improve myself so I could EARN it! Home ownership is a privilege, NOT a right!

My new favorite is the Clark County Veterans Assistance Center. Last year they helped about 50 Homeless Vets get off the streets, with new jobs, Deposit and First + Last Month Rent Paid. With the skyrocketing rents in our area, this is no small feat!

Code Purple shelters, Crisis House, People's Place and Habitat for Humanity in this area.
It would be great if you would join the Habitat Board. I used to be on a fundraising committee with them. Starting your own charity would be awesome.

A local charity called The Lighthouse. It is a faith based charity that is the primary local organization to feed and house the homeless.

It's probably Habit for Humanity. We have donated a lot to build on, worked on houses and my husband and son in law were superintendents on a couple of houses.

I don't have one directly related to housing... I support Children's Miracle Network and my local animal shelter, as well as my local food bank.

We have a local charity that works with the Unexpected Homeless . They operate out of an old city hotel and work towards getting them back on their feet and into a rental .

Helping Hands.
A local faith based organization that intervenes to improve quality of life, maintenance and repair and bridge the gap for those who find themselves overwhelmed. I can be landscaping, painting, paying utilities, building ramps and repairs of many kinds.
As Liz and Bill Spear suggest, the beneficiaries and the volunteer enter into a community of servitude that makes everyone stronger.
