6 months. I did my Due diligence in the summer of 2003 and moved at the end of November 2003. San Francisco - San Diego. I had my brokerage, territory and marketing set to launch and an apartment rented.

I have thought about it many times.  Of course there is the licensing requirement by state - but then you have to prepare to hit the ground running once you are settled.  Not an easy transition I am sure.

As others have said, I'd start on the licensing.  I'd also reach out to some brokerages and start feeling them out.

Well it took a year to make the final decision, find a homes, etc. I spent several months planning business wise (after we purchased the house before we actually moved), working on referring business I was leaving behind to colleagues in my office. In retrospect I wish I had done more but I was barely 3 years into it

In the process of getting licensed in Florida. I don't plan to abandon Oklahoma just yet. May do some work there next year.

Prepare to move or prepare for real estate? We prepared to move for a good 6+ months. I went about getting my license one year after we moved.... too much else going on in the interim including the death of my mother and my having to spend a lot of time going back and forth to NYC to resolve her estate.

I have thought about it and have decided I would not want to start over. After 37 years in the business and very good repeat and referral business, I just couldn't give that up. Good luck to you and you learn the new area and meet people and business will come.

I have been licensed in Florida and Virginia and when I moved back to Florida in 2012, all I had to do was change my license status back to active and choose a broker. I had worked there before so it was easy.  When I first moved to Virginia, I had to do a lot of research and interviewing before I got started.  Check to see if the new state is reciprocal with your current state license.

Good luck with the move Corinne.  Be prepared for a lag in business no matter how much time you give yourself to prepare.

I cannot even let my brain think about that.  I hope by the time I move, if I ever do move, I will be retired from real estate or have won $300 million on the lottery.

Where are you moving?   I haven't moved states but it may as well have been. From a small town to big city was quite the transition - I think I started about 5 or 6 months ahead and that paid off.

I intend to join a Team when we buy in FL . I've had my own since 2004 .

Timely topic which I've given consideration to and started looking for a home 6 months ago, but no dice yet. Sometimes we have to take the leap and then catch up where we need to.
