I would never take a subordinates bonus.  They obtained the client, did the work, they get the cruise, nor would I expect a subordinate to leave their listing with me if they moved on to another brokerage.  I believe in Karma.  Yes, it does get run through the brokerage, but that doesnt mean you cant' turn around and give it back to the agent.

As the broker/owners all compensation came to us.  We always gave the full amount to our agent, and that included plane tickets, cruise tickets, etc.  As far as we were concerned, it was the right thing to do.  A

We are required to run cash/monetary gifts through our broker, Nathan.

Other gifts are prohibited in North & South Carolina if they are 'of value' and I believe the limit is $100. They can take us to dinner and pick up the tab but, our state is very strict about not accepting gifts from our clients. Delivered items such as flowers or other deliverables are excluded (because you can't send them back and get a refund).

Well that's easy for me as I'm the broker.  It probably would go into the business account.  If it's an agent yes there is a split. I've never run into your last question with an agent.....intereting question.

If you are in a company, like that puts a cap on the annual dollar amount you pay the broker, then it doesn't matter if the broker takes a split of the monetary bonus. If you haven't capped yet, it will get you to your cap faster, and you'll start keep 100% of your commissions faster. If you have already capped for the year, you'll keep 100% of all commissions and bonuses anyway. I don't know if we're allowed to mention company names here, but you can google which companies let you keep 100% of your commissions after capping.

Well, if it did happen I'd get to keep it.  If it were something like a cruise or baseball tickets, I'd get to keep them.  Depending on what they were, I'd probably invite my broker to come along.  Especially on Dodger tickets, since he likes baseball and I don't.

I don't split commissions with my broker. I only pay a franchise fee. Have never received anything like cruise tickets (and don't want to, as I get seasick). Really, at the end of the day, I've never had a client offer such a significant bonus. I tell them to just take it off the price of a home.

It depends.  Is this a gift before or after the close of escrow?  We are a 100% office so it wouldn't need to be split but disclosed if it were during the transaction.  A gift after closing would be a personal gift as long as it wasn't a pre-made agreement.  Consult an Attorney before taking my answer as gospel.

It has to run through escrow in CA as I recall from my last one, because they are paying my broker, not me technically; but I don not have a split with my broker. If I was my own shop AND my own broker, different rules.

I would not accept anything but $$$ personally.
