Unfortunately, NAR can't really do anything.  What would be impressive is if a couple of large brokerages like KW, Remax, and Realogy etc. pulled their feeds to Zillow.  I bet Zillow would drop the Instant offers program quickly if that were to happen.

On an intersting related note, my state's association (California: CAR), released a press release today denouncing the instant offers and backing Realtors.  That made me happy.  Looks like they know where their bread is buttered.

A code of ethics for members, but NONE for them.

Agents need to be building their pathways to other options even if that means defiying the club rules.

      Some are claiming that Z is "practicing Real Estate without a license".  I would think that Z's legal department has created the necessary real estate corporations and real estate LLC's, with the required Broker/Director in place, to comply with the laws of the states where they are running this program.

    The only damage that NAR could do to Z is to get every Board, Association, and MLS to stop giving away the farm by syndicating to Z.

A complete waste of pixels that could be better used elsewhere.  Nobu and the rest of NAR staff have long been aware there are lots of agents that HAAAAATE Zillow and there's not really a danged thing NAR can do about Z.  It's a capitalistic society and NAR can't dictate to a publicly traded company what they can and can't do.  Bill

I am not shocked at all at what Z is doing and saw it coming years ago. I see more steps in removing the real estate agent as the direct contact and them inserting themselves.

I see this instant offer tactic as appealing to FSBOs and low-ball buyers. Most buyers/sellers will still want an agent to guide them.

As far as Z goes, the quickest way to strike is to pull syndication of listings to Z. That's it. Just stop. What is everyone afraid of?

I was part of the original petition to stop zillow.  www.stopzillow.com.  You have to hand it to Greg Hauge for getting it started.  Will it go anywhere?  If not with NAR it will at least get agents thinking about their futures.  Zillow is a tech company and doesn't care about you.  They are being sued for zestimate right now but all the estimate sites are wrong.  They don't see the homes.  5 years ago cab drivers though uber was a joke.  Who's laughing now.  Zillow is struggling with getting sellers to use their site.  They want seller data and this is a way to get it.   Once they have buyer and seller info, they can dominate the traffic.  All the big brokers are going to be forced to change.    If you can't beat zillow, you will be forced to pay thier high fee's and become a premier agent.  If you disagree with zesimate you can now hit a" I disagree tab"and their agent gets the lead to provide a real comparable.   If you want to sell your home and the investor offer is to low, the agent gets the lead.  Agents are going to have to form a bond and move away from NAR or they will go down with the ship.  Its coming.  Zillow is not going away.  More like them to come.  Check out uber founder starting real estate venture HAUS.

As long as associations and large brokerages provide listing information and individual agents feel pressured to "go with the flow", these efforts would present nothing more than empty words.

I'm getting a bit tired of the remarks NAR does nothing for us. I remember back in the pre-crash market when every alternative real estate brokerage was wanting congress to break up NAR's alledged "restraint of trade" and allow their free access to the MLS listings. NAR went to back for ALL of us. They are at the fore in preserving the Interest Deduction, keeping the $250,000/$500,000 capital gains forgiveness and stopping so many "point of sale" bills. As far as Zillow is concerned, what they are attempting to do is like a broker who wants his agents to go out and bring listings in while s/he runs a discount operation in the same space! Realtors are uploading homes to Zillow and Zillow is having you pay a license fee to be seen NEXT to your own listing and then they decide to eliminate us from the transaction. HELLO!!
