My hometown of Venice, and Sarasota County Florida, are ruined from over-population.   The traffic on I-75 in that area is like downtown Atlanta, or worse.  

     When I visit my family in Scottsdale Arizona, I remember how it was when I lived there in the 1970's.   It is heart-breaking to see the air pollution, the traffic, and the paved-over Sonoran desert.

     Now, my city of Tallahassee is being over-developed.   The magnificent trees that gave Tallahassee it's charm are being cut down at a staggering rate. 

     But that's life, and that's progress.  You either accept it, or you move somewhere else. 

      I just moved to a remote part of the coast, 30 miles south of Tally.   I hope it stays remote!

Yes to this happening in the now and in time times to come. Certain freeways/cities/etc. will not hold decades from now thus we must stay ahead of this curve. Good locations close to everything will become pure gold

Absolutely, as the gap between rich and poor gets wider, people insist on building new homes on the edge of town while homes in the center deteriorate and fall down.

My area is overpopulated & that's the way it's going to be. People like it that's why it's overpopulated. See, Detroit has the opposite problem.

the market will adjust on its own ..... when land becomes scarce, prices will soar.... construction will be limited....growth will slow ....

My town has changed with the last 10,000 to 15,000 people who have moved here - who are mostly Bay Area and Seattle transplants. The traffic has become that of a much larger town, and the attitude (lack of patience) has changed as well.  Many of these recent people have gotten on city council and the key city committees, which has also changed entirely how the city is- they seem to forget that the reason they moved here was the lifestyle which they now want changed.  But there is push back - last election a bit of a move toward how things were in the past. We shall see how the community responds.

Charlotte is a rapidly growing city and to my way of thinking, that's good. If you don't grow, you die.

All the time!  That's why I fight against any loosening of growth restrictions and oppose new construction.

Downtown Chicago has over 8,000 apartment units plus a couple of condominium projects slated for delivery through 2018 and the claim is they will be absorbed at 2,500 units per year! Nobody seems to find a fault in the math!

I had the same thoughts as Lyn Sims in that you could be in Detroit or some other city where the opposite is true.   

There are areas that are already over built and they suffered with over stuffed schools and huge tax increases. I think many towns have learned from this in NH.

Your choice is grow food locally or import everything from Mexico and Brazil.  If the latter is not your preference, higher density is the solution. Higher density leads to sustainable design, localized resources and less personal car ownership. 

Too often we find our place near the beach then get preoccupied with keeping everyone else away. Higher density has greater benefit. Western thinking falsely believe "privacy" equals "more space." Eastern thinking practices that privacy in a internal spirit and mind thing.

Over populated? Yes. We should solve this by eliminating people beginning with  the stupid, then the fat and finally those over 70. (I will be the judge) What say you?

Yes and yes!  Hoards of people everywhere.  In Midtown-Atlanta, there are at least ten cranes right now dotting the skyline for construction of high rise apartment buildings.  These buildings will likely convert to residential condos in the next 3 to 5 years.  With all the towers, it's getting harder to find the sun when you look up from the streets.  Oh, and need I mention the Atlanta traffic?

We have so many people moving to the Denver area that the builders can not get them up fast enough.

No, where I live and work within San Diego is about built out, the only thing they keep adding is office space.

I have felt that way for the last 20 years or so! When we moved here 30 years ago, Cocoa Beach was a sleepy, quiet little town that snow birds had just discovered. Now it is a popular tourist destination, world famous for surfing and so built up you would not recognize it from when we came here. Cape Canaveral is now following that path and Port Canaveral is a mega port for shipping and cruise ships. The citizens do speak out with some success but because there are so many entities involved here on the beach, it is an uphill battle.

Houston is a sprawl. They seem to be building on every square foot.

I'm grateful for the growth - the only issue many Charlotteans have is that the infrastructure (primarily the roads) is not keeping pace with the rapid growth. Commute times have increased considerably.  

I don't feel that we're over-populated...we just need to do better planning in anticipation of growth rather than playing catch-up, after-the-fact.

We are a growing city and building has to continue to provide housing for all the people moving here for jobs and retirement.

We are growing like crazy..not the sleepy little town it was in the 70's and 90's and one thing is always constant..change!
