It depends on who it is. There are some people who are so obnoxious that I just shut my ears off & shut them down. Often times here on AR, I read nothing short of a commercial for how good someone is.

I'm like Nina - neither.

Actually, neither. I "compete with myself." 

I get motivated when I read of other people's success. 

I doesn't really affect me one way or the other.

When I hear successful people speak of their vision, I do get motivated.

I don't get motivated by the stories othere tell about Jobs obsessive tendencies that some say drove the success of his enterprise.

Good morning again Paul. Never argue with success. Just keep on plugging and learn.

If they share their "how's" I get fired up. I out grew comparing myself to "The Jones" years ago. I'm where I am by choice, if I want change, that's up to me. Other people's success is their choice. It's all choice.

Other people's success is an indication/proof that  "it" can be achieved, whatever that "it" is for you.  It is an inspiration, or you can get bummed which makes no sense to me!  A

I'm always of the mindset that success breeds success, the more the merrier in whatever your field.

Motivated.

Motivated, that is why I read them.

I'm very inspired by stories about successful people or just someone I know. I always ask my friends share all good news with me and celebrate any even small achievement. 

It is inspiring!

I can honestly say that there are times when I get "bummed"!  When a "tear down" in my market would sell for $100K and 3 hours down the road they're in multiple offers in excess of $1M !!   The unbelievable prices that are being paid bum me out   

I get excited for them and hopefully can pick up some ideas from them that will help my success.

If they can do it, so can I.

motivated. Call that person ask more questions

When someone anyone comes into their "win"...I am happy for them. This mindset is based on turns of which we all have coming even more than once

I love joining in the victory and celebrating others successes!!

I get PUMPED UP! ...it is really motivating to see the success of others and to learn from it. Let the poor in ATTITUDE weep  all they want.

It can be quite motivating.  I don't see any reason to see the negative side of it, so being bummed is not an option.  I may be inspired by their journey.

My heart smiles for them - IF I know it's true success!  

There are some BIG blow-hards around that if I know their real data and read about their self-proclaimed successes, I don't get motivated or bummed - I just shake my head at them!  ;-)

Honestly a bit of both... I wonder why I hadn't thought to do something they were doing so that feels bummed. I determine to find and implement better methods.. so that's motivated 

I am like Nina Hollander - I compete with myself in every way..I may wake up in the morning and say I don't want to drink coffee for 3 months just to see if I can do it..I am always challenging myself..But I love to see others succeed...It lets me know that God is no respector of person..I can do the same thing as long as I am willing to put in the work...

Paul - It depends on the person. If I like the person, then it motivates me, and I am very happy for them. If the person is a lying cheat, and just an all-around bad person, it bums me out because I don't think they deserve their success. Other people are more deserving for sure.

I get motivated too, and know I can do the same.

Certainly motivating and I try to come away with a helpful tip or two. Envious? A very destructive and regressive quality.

I am excited to see my former students do well.  I will call or send text to congratulate them. 

  It depends on who that other person is.

I cheer them on!  Why would I get bummed?  That seems weird to me.

I don't know that I would call it motivation but I do find pleasure in seeing others succeed.

I get motivatied for sure.

if it's something I can use, I'm psyched to have found it.....

Friends: I cheer for them.

Competition: I see if I can learn anything from it.

Others: Send a congrats if appropriate or ignore.

I celebrate the success of others ... nothing to be bummed about ... just happy and excited for them.  Does it motivate me?  More inspires than motivates. 

I'm motivated, because I'm happy for them, and always looking for something new and different that I may take away from them, and their experience.  I realize different things work for different people, and that there is certainly more than one way to handle a situation Paul S. I have my own business plan that I follow. If others have a different one and are successful at it, I might tweak mine, but that's it. To get "bummed" is a waste of emotions. You need "stones" to be in this business.

Depend whose it is LOL

I'm my own biggest competitor... paying too much attention to  how others are doing doesn't help me.  That being said, I do pay close attention to how I stack up at the monthly meeting but also rarely listen/watch the company's "good news videos" (it just doesn't matter to me who got checks and who turned in deals...  I know when I get checks and how my board is looking and that's what's most important/motivating to me).

I do not get bummed by other's success - I'm happy for them.  I'm not necessarily motivated by it though either.  I have other internal reasons for motivation rather than someone else's success. -Kasey

My motivation would not come from another; it is those bills that want to be paid each month!
