Depends on the situation, I am a Broker and can take care of myself.

I can't speak to that. I can however tell you that my agents don't do it, but I don't mind when an agent calls me if they have an issue with something/someone at my office.

Chain of command. Go through your Broker first.
If they tell you to go directly to the other Broker the next time there is a problem, you have your authorization.

I did not have any success with going through a broker when I was affiliated with a brokerage. That, among other things, is why I went independent. When I get no response from an agent ... I call the agent's broker. Sometimes that helps ... sometimes it does not.

yes... there's no reason to go through the rank and file....just call and state your issue....
I've only had one in a 39 year period....I called the broker owner and "shared my thoughts" directly.... and he saw it my way and addressed it immediately....he followed up with me, and the problem never happened again....

I have done this in the past and have told my broker afterwards a few times I've called my broker first - I prefer to handle things than get my broker involved unless necessary

It depends on the circumstances. I never have, and would at least alert my managing broker to the issue first via email

I would not, give your broker the courtesy to know wants going on. When your broker receives a call and has no Iidea what going on , it is like being blind sided.

It is best to inform your broker for proper guidance

This should be part of the brokerage policy. The agent works for me and should go through me, the broker, to make formal complaints. Why? Because it affects the whole brokerage. I am responsible for my agents.

I am my own broker now, but before would always run something by my broker first.

As a broker myself I would prefer my agents at least call me first to let me know the situation. -Kasey

No, I usually let my broker handle it. More clout when brokers talk to other brokers.
602,025
I am the Broker and I instruct all my agents to talk to me first before complaining to another Broker or the Real Estate Commission.

Complain? Of course not.
Advise? You bet.
Depending on the situation, I will not 'go through' my broker but will take measures so my broker is not ambushed or broadsided.
Compensation for transgression is due "ME" not my broker, contrary to my brokers interpretation to their entitlement.

I discuss it with our head broker and we decide how to handle it together.

Peter Mohylsky - I do not like to complain about the other agent. If I have to, it is through my broker. Though most of the brokers want to play 'safe'!

I let my broker know if it has gotten to that point.
But, I do handle my business unless he feels he should, I defer to him since he's also a helluva attorney.

As a broker, I would greatly appeciate being informed. Otherwise my reputation get's dragged into my agent's issues and I'm painted with it.
756,064
I typically handle all these calls for the brokerage. I am able to step away from the issue a bit and discuss things with the other broker in a logical way. Only a few times have I been really surprised at the response.

Probably not. If it's that's serious, my broker should be consulted first. Sometimes broker to broker talks are the best way to ahndle things.
151,733
No, I wouldn't go around my broker. It's up to him to make the call to the other agent's broker.
1,466,257
Peter Mohylsky You should go through your broker. That's what the broker is there for. It will carry more weight.
1,525,616
I have had complaints about agents in the past and always asked my broker how I should handle it
1,646,171
I do not complain at all, period. Complaining to a manager will just ruin all your chances for your relationships.

Peter - I would never go that route, this is an issue that needs to be addressed at the broker level, and you can be certain that the other broker will be calling your broker about the issue. Don't put your broker in the position of being the last one to know.
This would go under the heading of bad ju-ju in my opinion...

I am the Broker and I'd have a real problem with one of my agents doing that without informing or consulting me.
