I think it takes some of both. If you sit back and wait for all of it to come to you, there will be many missed opportunities.

This is also known as push/pull.  We like to pull, some like to push.  It is really  very simple, some like to be pursued, some like to be attracted.  We like to be attracted and run out of the door when pursued...We run our business by attracting, and the few times we have pursued we hated what happened.  A

Generally attract, but when adding new staff we may do some chasing.

I want to attract. Too much work pursuing, unless it is a new niche for my business.

I chase after no-one. Let them chase me because I'm worth it.

Discern. Business comes in, I decide whether I want to take it, reject it outright or refer to someone else.

There has to be an element of both, even if you are thinking you are attracting business you have got to pursue something to get the attraction. Prospecting is pursuing.  Marketing is pursuing so that you may attract them. Calling leads from an open house, a website registration, a conversation at a party - that is pursuing and that isn't bad.  Chasing is different than pursuing.  -Kasey

I suppose its a bit of both... I consider attracting to be passive pusuit but following up with an attraction result is also a type of pursuit Mick Michaud

I haven't read the post but "attract" would be my method. I'm not a salesman.

I'm a pursuer, waiting is not my style.  I am a slow growther though.  I like to plant, fertilize, water and watch my business grow.

I attract with networking and pursue with marketing.

Attract with 90% of what we do but, aren't we also pursuing here...and on our websites? We're pursuing that consumer who is looking for information by blogging and we hope that by doing so, we attract them!

That is how it appears from the owner side when a listing expires. Agents lay siege to their location and are unrelenting.
