How did I choose?

They had the brand the world recognized and none of the resources upon which I would be dependent. In essence, they allow the agent to run THEIR business in the manner the agent chooses.

Now, for you, the song you will hear is about personality, train'n, trustworthiness and other such criteria that you CAN NOT MEASURE.

The the tricky thing about real estate profession, if you don't figure it out fast you will be the statistic, the item on the menu.

Your choice for brokers MUST be based on subjective things you can measure while you sit at the desk with them.

That actually means you need to answer to two questions and ONLY TWO.

From these OBJECTIVE RESPONSES everything you need to know can be derived.

But it starts with the preparation any responsible business owner (real estate agents ARE business owners) would do. A BUSINESS PLAN.

Without a plan you can not know you are LOST.

Personally, I wouldn't base a decision like this on friendships. You need to decide what you need from a brokerage relationship and go from there.

I chose every office I worked with.... and I managed each one of them....  I moved from one to another because it was a a career advancement!

Many of the same reasons I choose RE/MAX.  No office is perfect so you need to choose based on your business plan and model and perfect it for your style.  You are in business for you and not your Broker.

Decide what you want and need, then interview all of them.

It was the right fit for me.

Go with your gut.  What's important to YOU?

Training and development opportunities, the culture of the brokerage

He is a good manager and is fair, but he is not a micro-manager.

He's the only one who would take me . Plus he had to manage me too.

He was the most pleasant broker I met & I was very pleased with the terms we worked out. It'll be my 10 year anniversary with the company this August. I consider my choice of brokerage one of the best business decisions I have made. 

Take your time to choose the right one up front, and it really needs to be the one that will help you get to where you want to be, the way you want to get there. Bring a big list of questions with you when you meet with brokers!

I always moved where I got better terms and people I like and rely on. That's why I now with a smaller broker and do not plan to move any time soon.

He bought my company, hired me on staff and gave me a terrific commission split. All of that probably doesn't apply to anyone else's situation. It was the right thing to do at the time. You have to be ready to recognize opportunity when it is staring you in the face.

 My advice to you - friends are friends, business is business.  Don't choose a friend or relative.

 What is the split?  Is there any training?  Are there mentors who will help you?  Do they offer you any in-house leads, the opportunity to be on a team, or some other way to quickly get involved with living Buyers and Sellers?

  When you have a one-on-one interview, do you mesh with this person?

Who do you feel offers the most chemistry? Who offers the most of what you are looking for? If they offer a lot but for you little, you made the wrong choice!
