I'm racing to the top. I lose a client over it here and there, but I refuse to compete with Kmart when I'm running a Nordstrom.

You always have to decide which options, etc are best for you & your business model.  And yes, we give away too much free information.

I'm saying 'hooey' to some of these answers - we all wonder if we should try something new, etc. We do pay attention to what others are doing! How do you find out new ways to do business if you don't?

I never try to keep up with the Jones, I do my own thing, always better operating in a less crowded niche.

I only worry about things I can control.

Never, i do not worry about what others are doing. I just keep doing what i do. I get the calls "how did you get that listing? and "Where are you getting all your clients from?"

No, I don't. I never pay attention to other agents.

Thomas J. Nelson, Realtor, CRS and I are on the same page.  When a client brings it up I say "Does Nordstrom worry when Walmart has a sale?"  (we don't have too many KMarts left, I used to use them instead of Walmart).

No it's my own race. Why focus on the negative of losing?

All the agents I started 12 years ago have dropped out of the race. Can not afford even to renew the license fee.

At KW started in 2009 90% dropped out went to get a real benefitted job.

I focus more on myself & less on others.

Don't give away too much until you have a client relationship.. be helpful and informative... I also am not going to try to under price the cheap-o brokerages/agents... that's not going to fit with a quality business model

I never cared much about the Joneses. I do that I feel is right and best for me personally.

For us, it is never a race. If we spend our time watching others, then who is watching our business?

no.... I have always had blinders....I don't care what others are doing....but I DO know that not many mail postcards, and those who do mail to a small database...

No. I only pay attention to what other agents are doing to see if there are any ideas I might want to incorporate into my own business. I don't care who is first and who is last. I care how much better I am doing this year than last year and why.

I liken this business to a swim meet.  If you pop you head up out of the water to see what the other guy is doing, you lose valuable time and could lose the race.  Preparation has to happen before you hit the pool.  It's in the little things you do every single day. 

Absolutely Not.  I have never been  one to follow the herd.  Sheeple mentality is not my things. The cream rises to the top.
