I'm not noticing it yet, but I know it's been talked about here too.
I go under the assumption I am being sales taxed on all purchases, so whether we are, will or don't, I assume we are. As Michael Jacobs stated, we're Cali Men. The Golden State-they pay for the gold with all our taxes.

Nathan Gesner - so you are lucky not to have paid tax so far....
Join the team! We have been doing it for years now!

We sign indicating that we either (1) did not purchase anything, (2) we purchased and paid tax, or (3) we purchased and did not pay tax and it is managed with the tax return. I don't know how. My CPA manages that for me.

CA sure does, my Amazon purchases are taxed. Nothing like big gov sitting back on their hands and cashing in on the innovation of others.

Oregon is one of only two states, I believe, with no sales tax. They make up for it with high property taxes and income taxes.

Huh, I always thought we paid tax on Amazon purchases, but I just checked and there wasn't tax added to my order. I know there is one company out of Utah that I order from that always taxes. I apparently don't pay much attention I guess. -Kasey

By law, only if they have a brick and mortar facility in the state. That doesn't mean that all merchants are up to date on that. That's also one reason you don't see too many fulfillment centers in CA (aside from the state's labor code and price of land).

Many sites. Previously it was "honor system", now a lot of web retailers tack it on to the total amount due.

If there is a store location or distribution center in the state we pay the sales tax on the Internet sale. There are some bills in the legislature that address collecting from all sources. The problem is how in the world would they enforce it.

We don't have states in our great nation. In any event, whether an online purchase is taxable depends on the particular type of purchase and other details relating to the transaction.

I don't believe I've been taxed online as of now, but I will start paying closer attention from here on out. Thanks for asking this question.

Yes & I've tried not to see what it is. We have one of the highest purchase taxes on the planet currently 9.75%. 10% if you are eating out.

Amazon has been charging NC state tax for a couple of years now. Seems fair to me.

Yes.
All Florida residents are responsible to pay sales tax for on-line purchases.
We write a check equal to 7% of total sales and mail it in.
Sure, that's what we do.
I imagine that self-policing policy will be changing real soon.

I don't think so, although I've been paying a sales tax on purchases for a long time.

We do not have a sales tax so no. But i do think if a state has a sales tax, they should collect for the sales tax for online purchases.

Nathan Gesner Yes, they collect it at the end of the year for purchases where the sites do not collect the sales tax and it is filed with your state taxes. Amazon has been doing it in my state for a while now.
