Paul well that is ridiculous....somebody had a bad attitude that day. Hope you found a different company. They don't deserve your business.

I'd remind them that they were referred to me and if they continued to give me shitty service we'd both take our business elsewhere.

I am sure you will find someone else that is willing to work with you.  Some people just love to cut their noses to spite their face.  When we represented buyers and went outside our immediate area, we were always treated with respect and kindness.  A

Scary. Tlk about poor service. I have worked with a number of vendors in the next county - inspectors, escrow, title - which is rare for me, and have been very satisfied all around.

I have gone outside of my jurisdiction but, only because the buyers insisted and found the same to be true - the attorney's office staff were not very welcoming.  They were also a referral from a local agent who uses them all of the time.  

When I told her how rude and non-responsive they were to me, she has since, switched attorneys!  It doesn't pay not to be welcoming to everyone who steps foot in your office!

Wow!! Now that is not a company who is into customer service! I'd call the local agent and let her know about the poor service.

I would find another company to work with. Fortunately my favorite title companies have offices throughout my state. Now working with other agents in one particular county near us can really be a bad experience. We are more rural and they think they are better than us. 

Part of human nature to treat outsiders differently.

Paul - I have only done a few deals outside my local area, but was always treated nicely by the title companies. They are still working the transaction in order to get paid, so not sure why they cared so much about you.

I would probably find another title company.

I don't think I'd use that title office for the transaction!

I have worked quite a few times outside my area and have been treated professionaly though a few do not like when you step in their area. But that is a small percentage as I see it.

I woudl ask to speak with a manager or find someone new. YES, when i travel to other areas, i do get push back. I have a listing now in the Lakes Region of NH and more than 1 has asked why I am listing in their area. One even said "just refer it" as no agent will show it. Ill teach them when i sell it. I may start telling them i am looking to add an office up there. 

we do not get treated differently nor do we treat others differently..... we are listing agents and we are as helpful as possible to all buyer agents.... the path of least resistance is what we preach to the members of the team.... that's the path we provide for all buyer agents....and they appreciate it...

The times I have done it I was treated very nicely and professionally as I did them.

Never had it happen ot me! I would be looking for a different title company, one that offered service!

Yes, they can sometimes be very territorial and resent you coming " into their area," which to me is ridiculous.  Who cares?  As long as my client buys your listing and your Seller's home gets sold...  Isn't that objective?

There can be rotten apples found in many barrels.

I never do, I have a team member in the 5 quadrants of San Diego, we cover the county as a team of local experts.

Wow! What happened to "We would love to have your business?"  I wouldn't be interested in working with them and would let the agent know why.   To answer your question, NO, I've not been treated that way. 

The only time we have worked outside of our areas is when we were negotiating short sales, but in those instances we worked together with a local agent and we came to know the Title people well there, so weren't treated differently.   Seems like a strange way to do business, treating someone in the industry poorly who is working with you and doing business with you. -Kasey

We've had good experiences with the Title companies.  However, we aren't in Northwest MLS, and access to some properties can be challenging if the listing agent is not also in RMLS or, doesn't use a combo-box. 

I have seen it both ways.

I have heard of things like that happening. I rarely go out of area the few times I have I was not treated well. 

What happens is that we don't realize some times that we are getting extra-ordinary service that exceeds our expectations until we go elsewhere

Yes indeed. We are a very territorial bunch. You can't know the entire 1/3 of northern Illinois - it's just impossible.

Clearly the information you received is incorrect.

The one speaking could not have been aware of your intentions and may have been guided by a 'protect the mothership' emotion. If it was the owner, clearly your business was not wanted.

And when the 'family' will look you straight in the eye and lie,

Truly astonishing! I've never really travelled outside my market area, which covers multiple counties in two states, so I've never suffered such treatment. At the end of the day, if I have a buyer who is looking outside my market, I refer them to the best local agent there.

I only refer if that is the case.

I am going to try an experiment with these older questions... does anyone go back and read them? If I put a response of any sort will the average number of people that acknowledge it by a like notice or will this create a lower result

I rarely do, but when I have, I didn't see any difference.

I don't go outside my area - I refer it out - better for me, better for the customer and spreads the business
