When it comes to "changes in rules" I'm not aware of any regarding featured posts. You're likely to find more than a few members with 50+ gold stars who are no longer active here.

I have no idea... maybe there were fewer members at one time and the odds of getting featured were higher. I've never been concerned about getting featuresd. If it happens, great, if not that's fine too. Most of the posts that get featured are those of value to members in AR. And I post primarily for the public.

I think so, I've seen folks who's post to feature ratio is 14% of their posts were featured. My ratio is 4% featured to date. I have had 18 featured and the majority got featured years ago, I've had fewer in the last 3 years, yet my writing is better ...or so I thought...and there are fewer posting now than back then.

Some of the most prominent and influential members from my early days don't post much or at all these days.  Priorities change.

BTW:  I don't think there have ever been any "rules" regarding features.  It has always been and probably will always be subjective based on who is authorized to make those decisions.

Peter Mohylsky I don't believe the rules about featured posts are any different than earlier days. It's still a mystery how they are selected. However, good content does help in the selection process.

I think it is mostly that there were less bloggers back then. There are many who are not active any longer who i used to love to read. The thing they miss is, when you stop blogging, you stop getting leds from blogging. I love getting a feature every now and then, it is a huge push. I also love getting all the leads from my blog every day.

I don't think this is odd at all. Many people are excellent writers & have chosen another media than AR. The rules were not any different than they are now.

I never knew the rhyme or reason for featured posts. In the past it seemed luke the same people got featured over and over again. They also used to allow us to "call shots" basically voting for a post to be featured, or anticipating that it would so peiple aith a lot of interaction in the community got more. It appears that isn't an option anymore.

One thing that I've noticed when you first are about to sign in,  is lots of them are OLD, guess they need to get a certain amount of "likes" or something before you get on that front page. THEY ARE ALL ABOUT 28 DAYS OLD!!! As to being featured, it's been so long since one of mine was chosen....have no clue.

Peter Mohylsky - there were many who posted often here 'in the early days' and the feature board rolled a lot more than it has the past few years. Many of those who were regularly featured ventured out and focus on their own websites...

Also, if you're an individual agent without an assistant(s), it's tough to blog daily, work your website AND work with clients in this crazy, busy market!

Something has to give and too often, it's blogging.

We used to have the "Called Shots" button, which notified AR Staff that a blog was feature-worthy.  There was even a called shots badge when you called a certain number correctly.

When one of the revamps of the site was done, called shots disappeared.

I've blogged mostly for SEO / Public, and not as much for Featured within AR.  I do think the Monetization of AR by the founders, with eventually ownership by T and then Z, motivated many to just work on their own independent blogsite.

ActiveRain has never published their criteria for featured posts.  However, those people who featured the posts would have had guidance and/or criteria in order to determine which ones to feature.  The guidance and/or criteria likely changed over time.
