Getting the answer to the question does it for me. I don't care how many answer.

Hmmm... I would say the number of thoughtful answers given. Guess that's #2. It's obvious some people answer only for points and not to add to the conversation.
Sometimes I give a smarty pants answer if all the good stuff has already been said.

Annette Lawrence , Palm Harbor, FL 727-420-4041 I don't ask many questions, but a response that adequately answers the question makes it a success.

Life in general DEPENDS on many things. Period.
The only hard and fast rules in life that I know of are:
Death
Taxes - if not paid - jail
Other than that - my goal every day is to be in peace and acceptance. Getting my feathers ruffled over the small stuff is not healthy. That said, all of the above many likely be fitting on any given day. I guess that boild down to "it depends". I do not ask many questions in this forum.

Content of answers makes the most sense to me. If someone explains why it depends, case closed!

A question about questions? LOL
I don't tend to ask questions for effect. I ask a question because I want to get an answer or opinions. Hopefully I'm not doing it wrong. ;)

I have asked questions that I actually needed an answer for - I have only asked three in the last year.
My way of measuring success on those occasions was that I received answers to my questions and moved forward with information I didn't have before I asked.

The success is based on many things. One person's answer could be just what someone stopping by for a moment may need. If the answers have thought and merit, it is a good answer. It does not have to be the size of a small novel.

There are some questions that can spark a blog post idea. The answer could go on for 500 words or more depending on the situation. I don't think this section was intended for something that in depth. I guess a private discussion between two people could happen and deep information shared that way. That's a great way to build a relationship between members, too.
If I get around ten good answers to a question I ask, I'm happy with that.

When I ask a question and I get at least one good answer, it was successful. I don't know how to measure it using any of the five options above.

I would measure it a success if I get an answer that works for me.

I would say.... wait for it... IT DEPENDS!!!!
For me when I've posted a "What were they thinking" question (like the inspection disasters Richard Weeks posts), my success metric was to show something odd or that I thought funny to the AR community and to hopefully brighten someone's day.
When I've posted a "What newsletter program do you use" type question, my success metric was the responses I received and if they helped me arrive at a decision that helped my business.
I do not do these, but if I did post an architecture/landscaping/building/word question as Tony and Suzanne Marriott, Associate Brokers and Barbara Todaro have last year, my success metric would be 1) If anyone got it right w/o Professor Google and 2) If it gave someone a learning moment. I have had two or three occassions last year where one of those questions came up in real life and I knew the answer BECAUSE it was a posted question here! Thanks to those asking the questions!!

For me, if I ask a question, it's about whether I got the answer(s) or idea(s) for my question.
For example, a couple of weeks ago, I was asking for a title/main idea for a blog post. I got some great answers. I took one and made it the title; I took several others and made them sections of the blog post. That to me was a big success.
I wrote the article a couple of weeks ago and was going to post a thank you here today (ironically). I thought I would do as a blog post, though, since it's not a question.

I measure it by whether or not I was educated by the responses. Sometimes I ask serious questions that I'm truly looking for answers to and get frivolous responses. That bothers me a bit. I'll only answer one of these Q&A's if I feel I have something of value to contribute. Not just to rack up some points.

Annette,
No measuring needed, the success is based on whether or not the question is answered to your satisfaction. There are so many diverse individuals here with differing points of views, and when we have posed a question, I have been satisfied and learned something as a result. A

Success can be as easy as getting an answer that solves your question. However some questions are meant just to start a conversation, if it inspires creative answers and multiple comments, it is a success. If it is a question left by anonymous, is one asked 100 times already than it is a failure

I suppose I primarily measure the success if I get a good usable answer.. then the rest would be point oriented.

I have not asked many questions. The questions I have asked required a detailed answer and not just ' yes' or ' no. I was fortunate that I got the answers.

It depends on your objective in asking it. I enjoy a variety of questions, but if they ask for something that requires more than a paragraph to answer they will likely get a whimsical answer from me.

Content and being to the point. Someone saying "I don't know" just irritates me.
321,564
I measure the success of questions by the content of responses. When I ask a question sometimes I'm looking for other ideas or suggestions. Ways another agent deals with a situation or product. So #2.

Always helps me if I ask a question and get just one point of view that helps me is worth it.

Participant total. Some will not really answer besides the usual 'grunt' of yes or no. I respect the person that answers 'it depends' because sometimes the question is totally unclear. Since everyone wants to be helpful - they don't know how to answer without it turning into a post itself.
I think that person's tidy whities are just a little too tight .....
