Family comes first, no question. Sometimes it's tough to balance all 3, and there isn't always enough leisure!

One can balance all three, it is like with everything else, either you run your business of the business runs you.  A

Sometimes my dog thinks I need to make him a higher priority.  He pointed out that Sunday was freezing - too cold for his walk but not too cold for me to show property!

     My wife works with me... she is a former Century 21 agent.  So the family balance is there. 

     Leisure?  I moved to a beach community a few weeks ago... every time I look out my office window, that beach is calling to me.  I have to be careful not to follow that siren song!

I have always had a warped sense of responsibility and still... family always came first when push came to shove!

I am more in balance at this stage of my career than when I started 30+ years ago.  I am not afraid to say no to business or take time off for leisure or family.

I'm neglecting personal time for workouts.  

My family is number One.

Life/work balance? Some would say no such thing can exist if you have a job. I would agree. But one must not let life spin out of control and become detrimental to those near and dear. So, real life means......

You have to draw a line. You must decide what is important and what isn’t.

How do you draw that line? By asking yourself one simple question a few times a day.

“What’s The Most Important Thing For You To Do Right Now?”

The main problem people have is they try to do it all and treat everything as important.

You can’t do it all and everything is not equally important.

So how do you determine the most important thing for you to do right now?

What is MOST important right now depends on:

1. Your values

2. Disproportionate results. (that 80/20 thing we all know about)

3.What is the thing only you can do

4. what is important right now

For an overwhelming portion of real estate professional, we don't have a job. We love what we do, and rejoice we can be paid doing it.

Work/life balance, for us, is related to what degree we have been successful in bringing those important to us, along for the journey.

That also includes sharing the story with those it effects.

IN relationship, it is about the attitude of servitude

In faith it is how we make God smile.

In success, it is how the lives of others are affected.

Those emerging from the participation medal experiment of social re-engineering  have had a new requirement imposed upon them. That is "How does what I'm doing make me feel good about myself?"

Fitting that into a work/life balance narrative will be interesting.

Some find security in maintaining work/life balance by establishing  'Thou shall not" parameters.

Others negotiate.

The secret lies in accepting the responsibility to know what is needed for the other one to be successful, then making certain those five things exist.

It is then one can enter into the kingdom of the worlds happiest people.

A life examined or more rules?
The most often choice will be what is easiest.

I have no family at home, but pets, business and keeping up my home does require lots of balance.

You can balance all three..just make the effort and be consistent!

I try to take off Saturday nights and most Sundays.  But have a hard time going on vacations and not answering the phone.

Definitely leisure with Family

I work as much as I do by choice... I don't believe I'm neglecting any other aspects of my life. In many ways, I had less balance in my corporate life.

I feel balanced at the moment, but it's always a juggling act.

I am so out on balance that I would not pass a field sobriety test...

I neglect leisure - I'm working on that - STILL!  I'm trying to cut work hours but, I haven't gotten them down as far as I'd like.  2017 will get me there...I just KNOW it!

I'm primarily property management which is more of an 8-5 job. I make sure I get my work done during office hours so I can enjoy the evenings and weekends with family. I have very few interruptions.

I find that business is at the top of the list

Family and leisure!  What are they?

All too often we neglect ourselves.

The disruption of personal time is typical.

It is never easy to balance it all. Normally this time of year is slower and allows for more family and me time however you would think it was spring. Every day takes a conserted effort not to work every minute of it

My daughter is grown and off doing her own things. So that frees up a lot of my time. Of course family comes first. I try to incorporate work and fun things. Like going to the dog park...I've picked up several new buyer leads from being there while I was having fun.

I'm neglecting work. Way more into leisure time now.

I balance work, play, exercise, time off and personal time and try not to neglect any of them.

I am fortunate that I have a good balance.

the only one I'm neglecting, lately, is me.

For way too long I did not have God first in the equation.  Now I do and amazed how life is balanced.

Vacations - it has been a year and I am so in need of our scheduled vacation next month. I can only take off a week at a time, but need to have at least 3 or 4 of these a year.

Leisure.

The same balancing act and priorities occur even if you are in a different business, occupation or job.

I grew up watching my parents balance two jobs and 7 kids plus all the leisure that comes with that . . .  they led by example.  For me, it has always been Faith, Family, Career and it has always worked beautifully.  It all depends on your priorities, your dedication and discipline.  It can be done.

I prioritize my health.  I make sure to workout every day. Without my health I'm no good to my family, friends, OR clients.  Next on the list is my kids.  I probably don't allow enough leisure time in my schedule, but I'm okay with that.

At this stage of the game probably work!

My priorities are balanced at the moment.  Some days they can get out of whack one way or another, but they always come back to balance.  Some days you just have to say "I don't want to work, I want to bang on the drum all day"

Family.  I rarely want to meet people after work in the evenings... Often tardy, no show.  Need to eat right also....

No children for us so it all blends.

For many years work trumped all and now to make up for it family trumps all!

Was a full time single parent with four kids and you can do it! The office being 32' from the house helped and a lake place was the best investment to get away from the closeness of work and home. It is all about working smarter not harder. Moderation and vacations part of success. Take kids along to show a rec property that is on the way to climb Mt Katahdin afterwards. Only took 20 minutes out andwas right on the route if you work your scheduling right. The real estate buyer had kids there too and everyone happy, social, and it shows family is what is most important for both broker and buyer.

I spent many years neglecting, and we can't do it over.... but I'm very balanced with work, play and family.... I'd say equally....

All is well and good....

At this point, it is definitely leisure.  We have a senior in high school and between that, all of the college registrations, applying for scholarships, real estate business, revamping a house, leisure is definitely not in the equation right now.  It's okay though, that time will come.
