This is a good reminder.

You need to determine which government created the notice or if the government body hired another party to create the document.  Certain items are in the public domain but many are not.  Review the copyright laws.

It is a great question and I'd like to learn more about the rules when you use a quote or anything in your blog post. 

I don't cut and paste anything unless I wrote it somewhere else and want it posted here....

Yes, but the graphic sometimes says it's from 'xxx'.  I would also put it in quotes or italics which also means 'pulled from somewhere & I quote'.

I can't remember the last time I posted a goverment notice in a blog post. But if I did, I would.

Well I don't copy other people's work, so there's no need to check the box.  I would report that article as it's bad for our site's health.  You could write a new post that links to the original (not the plagiarized post).  You could probably even copy 1 paragraph and then link to the original.

You should check the box it is not my content but I have permission to repost it.

I never use that kind of material so it's not an issue. I suspect many who do are not follwing this procedure. And they are probably aren't the ones likely to read this question and answers, sadly.

What if it's not their content but they don't have permission to post it?  That box wouldn't work for them then.  :-)

I do see an abundance of people reposting stuff from RIS Media on here.  Usually a day or two after it comes out in the daily email blast.

If I was doing that I would check the block. I rarely even repost quotes.

If it wasn't my content, I would check the box. 

I don't cut and paste other posts, but if I want to share a notice, I might paste it into a blog of mine and attribute it and as long as I have some accompanying original content, I see no need to check the not my content box on AR.

Patricia Kennedy I believe attribution should have been given to the government site where the information was obtained.

I try not to blind post like - if I do post something I always add my text to make the post my own and use "quoted" or "as publsihed by" for the content that is not

It is rare for me to copy and paste anything, but for local notices, yes i would check it.

I do not cut & paste so not a problem. That box serves as a reminder to us to be original, unless we do, indded, have permission, and I would make sure it was written permission, as well.

If I didn't come up with it from my brain, it's content I can't claim. I either cre3dit my source or check the box if the content dominates my post.

I don't cut and paste anything in my posts. If I'm reporting on something that came from elsewhere, I'll put it in my own words. If I'm referring to someone else's content, I'll include a link. Cutting & pasting and not mentioning the source in anyway is a no-no.
