For what they paid for the sign, they could have repaired the doorbell.

Jack Lewitz First impression: They don't want you to use the door bell.

My impression?
Don't take yourself so seriously.
If I yell, 'Ding Dong Really Loud' they know I'll play ball and don't have my knickers too tight.
If I ring the bell I suggest only ONE set of rules apply and those are mine, after all, I'm a real estate agent.
This little suggestion is a first impression opportunity but not the occupants but the one reading the plaque.

I agree. It's sad but true. We size people or things up quickly. That being said, I think one can overcome a bad first impression, but why put up that hurdle to begin with. Make a good first impression, then you won't have to work so overcome a negative impression.

Reminds me of a grave marker I kept outside my front door many years ago: "Here lies Clyde who wouldn't be neat.
He entered this house without wiping his feet."

non starter...humerous though
But first impressions really do count. The agents impression with the client and the property impression with the agent and buyer.
People are generally more relaxed than in the past in appearance. BUT well dressed, good attitude and knowledgeable demeanor will go a long way. It will give buyers confidence and if you're like me and like to present in person, it will help with the seller (especially if listing agent is a slob).
As to properties... you ahve to get people inside to sell. We spend money on photos and staging to help with that but the door, walk front yard all have a role too.
