Depends on what you want to do.  If you have the time, money, patience and ability to get approvals from city council on your construction, or if you want a house to move into in 30 days.

I know what I advise my clients, but you know best for yourself. If building, just think it through carefully, including cost overages, technical issues, practical and timing considerations.

Buy a built house, you can move in faster.

As someone who has been doing Construction Loans for over 40 years I will tell you this. To build is to spend more money and time than to FIND your new home. If you are building I always tell my borrowers to find a quality, honest and experienced builder.  Get referrals and LET HIM BUILD, and stay out of his hair. Visiting the construction site is fine,but consult,not fight  with the builder.

Both are rewarding however the plot is educational too

When someone asks about buying a plot in my area that means a burial plot. I would buy an existing house and not worry too much about the other.

if you can afford to build a home, buy a lot and have a builder build for you.... but make sure the builder approves of the lot...
