A wonderful area to raise alligators or crocodiles and keep the guys in the black hats away from your castle.  With ant season in full force here, we keep Quincy's food in a moat because ants cannot swim.  LOL A

Last castle I did a valuation on did NOT have a moat. Severely impacted the value when all the neighbors had one! 

To allow someone to put a drawbridge to get to front.

When mother-in-law comes tell her the bridge is broke to get her out of sight.

I know this one. It's a wide and deep water feature meant to keep the bad element out. If I had a moat, I would stock it with fish and have my own private fishing retreat.

A moat is something you dig around your castle.

My favorite part of the castle!  This is one feature I do not have on my house that I really wish I could... of course I'd want the fire breathing dragon in it!

It is a trench-like area filled with water around a structure for the puropse to hinder entry to the structure.

I stayed a good friends house in Mexico that had a real  moat surrounding the castle-like home including a drawbridge.  It was really cool!  Have never seen one since!
