Everything you need to know about coding websites can be found at:
http://www.w3schools.com/
However, spending time 'coding' is counterproductive to an agent growing their real estate business. The only advantage is speed, but that is only after the agent is up to speed regarding being a code jockey.
PS: if website requirements involve anything unique, such as calculation intensity (as opposed to information dispensing) you will find most website developers say they can, but are not even able to crank out a four-banger. In those creative situations the agent may wish they had code-jockey skills.

Yes I do. School (I have a Masters in Comp. Sci.). I think agents with technical skills will be better able to compete in the technical world.

I guess for some it might be an asset if you already know it, but no it's not needed. For most, it makes more sense to hire experts to do this.

Most agents that can code, typically spend too much time in their office and in front of their computer.

I sell real estate and am not interested in building my own site - that's what I hired my webmaster for and glad I did!

I hired Real Geeks to create a template for me, and have done everything else myself.

After some of the getty shakedowns in the past few years, I would not farm this out.

RealtyZap + - I learned coding in 80s - starting with COBOL programming. Though I do not code my own sites or lead generation pages.

I don't DIY, not even WordPress. The opportunity cost is too high.
But I understand the basics of HTML, XML, CSS, Drupal, jQuery, and so forth. I can go in as an Admin and make updates and changes.
This gives me an advantage over someone who gets stumped, and cannot make even simple changes to their site without calling Tech Support.

I do not code my own. I have had minimal coding training but a better use of my time is getting in front of buyers and sellers.

Personally, I can do this on my own but I decide to outsource it to focus on sales.

the only agent that I remember reading that she knows how to code is Hella M. Rothwell, Broker/Realtor® .... this lady certainly is impressive.... right Hella!!

Yes I think there is an obvious tech advantage to know what's going on behind the scenes.
I've had a background in it somewhat before becoming a realtor. So I have no fear in that area but I do not want to whip up my own WP site. There are still facets of it that still confuse me. Then there is the fact that the MLS won't always cooperate.
Landing pages are a snap & you can buy them like a can of pop.
