I am fairly certain that it would be more effective to take newspaper advertising money and toss it from a tall building in town than to pay it to the newspaper.

Local neighborhood papers are, like The La Jolla Light, but I not so sure about our big papers. I stopped advertising in newspapers 10 years ago, especially when they were printing nothing but doom & gloom about our industry yet asking us to advertise...huh??? Jeff Dowler & John DL Arendsen what do you gents think?

Good morning Lynnea Miller,
About ten years ago when I was with another company, I would hear an agent complain about not getting any leads from the local magazine. That magazine became from half an inch thick to a 1/16 on an inch. That same company asked us to pay for an add for a special issue, I received no one call. So I never advertised on a newspaper or magazine ever again.

When I was a young upstart boat designer and manufacturer in Newport Beach, CA in the 60's & 70's I probably spent easily in the 7 figures on print media, primarily newspapers, and it was extremely successful as we ended up selling tens of millions of dollars in inventory over about a decade..
All that stated, however, in today's World of Cyber Space with little or no interest whatsoever in print media I wouldn't dedicate one red cent in that direction unless it was very focused to a specific target market directly hitting a specific end user.
Example: VRBO's, Summer Rentals, Senior Living, Mobile/Manufactured Homes, etc. But for general RE sales I really believe as others do that 90% of every sale starts with a buyer going on line to someone like Zillow, Redfin, etc. It's definitely a consumer driven market nowadays.
That's my 3 cents worth Thomas J. Nelson, Realtor (adjusted for inflation)

To receive ACTIIONABLE information you need to buy a newspaper ad and measure the results.
The result may be your ad copy is deplorable, the messages does not resonate with the reader, the appeal conflicts with the message or as many WANT to believe, print advertising is dead.
What they really mean is they believe what they do is best and to say otherwise means they have made a wrong decision.
I've tested newspaper advertising in Tampa Florida adjusting the elements as needed. You need to do the same then you will have actionable understanding regarding newsprint in your area.

Print media seems relevant in the Naples real estate market, probably due to the visitors who buy the papers. But I personally think it has become irrelevant with the advent of newspapers online now.

It's been many years, and it got to be cost prohibitive for no return. It seems that we are seeing more real estate newspaper ads. There are a couple of brokerages that always have full page or largers ads in the local paper.
