The answers here are hilarious from 'you can't tell me what to do ...' to I go where I'm told I guess.

One of the best ways for me to meet people actually has been when I walk my dog. She's a magnet for everybody.

When I first got into real estate and was in a traditional office, I hated the pressure of constantly hustling...everything was about seeking the next listing and always being "on". 

I am now in the very narrow niche of exclusive buyer represesntation and do all my business through referrals or the internet. Educated homebuyers seek us out.

I shop at Wallmart, have bad hair days and wear no name tag.  I prefer to stay private and watch TV with a dog in my lap.

All the new people I meet are dog competition people and that is a group that can spend all day without looking at their cell phone...most still don't know what I do.  I love it that way.

Love meeting people new or old friends.  Just wear a smile & let the conversation begin.  Guess I should volunteer to be greeter at Walmart in my retirement.  

I go to the mall and start talking to strangers.

Nobody has ever told me to do this; why would they?  You meet people in your day to day life.  You can tell when someone is on a mission to collect names

People are everywhere .... I don't spam people I meet with what I do or ask if they are selling or if they know anyone... that's just not my gig.  

No one ever tells me that. but if i wanted to meet new people, we have several events year round. Leesburg First Friday, Oktoberfest, Fairs, Art shows, Car shows, Hiking trails, parks, etc, etc.

We have always followed our passions.  We have takent classes in cooking, film industry, pottery, and certainly when living in Napa we plunged into wine and cooking.  That is how we met people, it was a joy everytimes.  A

I would offer to do open house events for as many well priced listings as possible....

People are everywhere.  I say focus on your interests and get involved.

    I meet new people almost every day... strike up conversations with the people in the checkout line with you, meet someone while at the bank, say "Hi" to some fellow diners while at lunch, etc.

I up my activity on social media.  I can reach more new people there than anywhere!   Although to be honest I have a constant stream of new relationships through my past and present clients ... if we do a good job and build a solid relationship with our clients they will want their family and friends to benefit from that same relationship.  Works for me.

An open house, especially a new listing,  is likely to bring the best results for me.    

Walk the neighborhood, visit with people I meet when doing anything local, participate in local community groups.

Leaving in Los Angeles is not easy to meet new people. I meet new people via open houses I hold, social network meetups, kids school events, gym.

My neighborhood is the first step...

Walmart comes to mind but joining civic clubs is also a good place to start and give back.

Naples is a great place to meet people because almost everyone is new to the area. There are lists of places and groups to join in our local newspaper and online.

I don't actually go anywere to meet people, though meet people everywhere.  I meet them at my volunteer work, at a group get-together of ladies, at Happy Hour in my community, etc.  I just talk to people in general, and am never introducing real estate into a conversation - sometimes it goes in that direction, but not alway Evelyn Johnston.  For me, I can't just go to a food store and talk to everyone that I see, even though that has been suggested - that is so not me, and I would not be friendly towards someone who I could see doing that.

Shopping! It's easy to start conversations-I picked up 3 new clients at the mall a few months ago!

I go fishing or hunting and clear my mind

.Although no one tells me what to do--I'm a broker/owner etc.--I go out my office door and walk around Carmel-by-the-Sea and talk to anybody and everybody at the drop of a hat. Great way to meet the movers and shakers in town. See a clump of people talking by the post office and I know one of them? I go up and say "hi" and get introduced around. Go to the deli to pick up something for lunch? Talk to people waiting in line with me.  My friends and I go to a lot of functions, doesn't matter what, and I talk to people. I also hand out cards to shop, restaurant and gallery owners, many of whom are my friends. They meet people coming into their establishment and hopefully my name comes up if they are looking for a house. But then, this is Carmel-by-the-Sea and it's a pleasure to walk around this town.

Depends on who's telling me this and if they have any right to.   A social club/hike/bar is a good place.

Vegas!  I just got back from a week there for a convention.  Met people from all over the world!

If that were to happen I'd join a new group such as sports team, networking group, church, pta etc.

I know this is a silly notion.  You could call a for sale by owner and just drop by, look at their house, admire it, chit chat .  You could probably work in four a five in a week.  Leave a card.  Maaaaaaaaaybe one of them might want to talk about real estate.  If that did not work, you could try an expired listing. 

I'll go anyplace where this is something shared in common.

End of November a Frida exhibition will be hosted at the Dali. The 'common' is so immense only a severe introvert would be unable to connect with a great number of people.

Local nature walks bring folks of vaguely common purpose to one spot. Nature, environment, walking, or meet someone are all common purpose.

I even dropped in on a BBQ hosted along the trail I run frequently. "What's going on?" When the common was identified, I knew I could talk to anyone.

The secret is, being skilled in how do you share your vision, that part of you that drives what you do and how it changes the lives of others.

I look in places i already am going.  I have eyes and ears open for those who talk about homes. I can introduce myself and hand them a card.

I have never had anyone tell me that but I meet plenty of new people just in the course of my daily routines. Since this is a tourist town, visitors are always in need of information so ask the locals and I am happy to oblige.

As a new agent I would hang out at a new construction showroom where the listing agent would send us buyers from the showroom. I sold 15 homes in one year until they fired the listing agent.

When I first started, I was always badgered about marketing to my street and I really did not want to harass my neighbors. Much better to have my own firm now.
