Jody Wall - I've heard of carbon tax credits for various activities carried out by corporations (like manufacturing or supply-chain flow), but haven't heard about credits specifically for real estate. The Institute for Professionals in Taxation includes folks that are designated Certified Credits and Incentives Professionals (CCIP) that may know of developments in this area. There is also the U.S. Green Building Council that may have news and information about this topic.

Get with an aggregator and they can advise you on the market value of carbon credits for those that own large acreages.

Carbon credits are getting to be popular with some large timberland owners, and determining a basis for this is part of some of the inventories that we do.

Is this a reference to having forest on your land? Only half joking; I can't think of any other reason to get carbon tax credits for real estate.

I never heard of it. But again, I'm not a tax adviser, your CPA should be able to answer this question.
